"That's a bit arrogant." Ace squinted at his baby brother while his other brother laughed.
"How do you even know what that means?" he growled, and Luffy simply pointed to Sabo, who now looked proud. "Nice to see you're picking up a vocabulary, Ace certainly isn't going to learn." The freckled kid had a deep scowl and huffed.
"Vocab…ulary - does that mean all the words I know?" The blond nodded frantically, elated to know Luffy was taking traits from more than just Ace. "I want a big vocabulary like Sabo cus' he sounds cool!" One brother was certainly enjoying this more than the other.
"Well, I should start teaching you how to read anyways, might as well use it as an opportunity to expand your vocabulary. Ace's as well."
Luffy had sparkles in his eyes, bouncing on the balls of his feet at the thought of sounding cool like Sabo.

Aspiring Marine rookie Coby was doing his best to just BE - to keep going in the face of his own personal hell, all while struggling to climb the ranks. But then "Fire Fist" Ace - a world-famous criminal - crashes in from practically nowhere, flipping his life upside down and sweeping him along on his quest to avoid the Navy. On a Navy ship.
Ace, meanwhile, was conveniently riding this ship to his next destination, doing his best to avoid trashing the career of his sudden new friend in the process. But it turns out, no matter what he did, he ended up accidentally making things worse for the pair. And everyone else involved.
Can this unlikely duo put their differences aside and make it through this trip? Or shall Ace's shenanigans risk the career prospects Coby clung so desperately to? What of Coby's sense of empathy? He risks terminating his own dreams for the sake of aiding this man who, in a weird twist of fate, saved his life. Is this okay? What even IS okay to do?! There was so much at stake, no matter where he turned...
***Update, 11/2/24: Life is kicking me in the tits, so chapter 12's release is going to take a bit longer than expected. It's in the works, tho! ^^
