Four years ago, Yamamoto’s childhood best friend moved away to Hokkaido.
And he said he probably wasn’t coming back. Yet here he was, kneeling on one knee at the entrance of Nekoma high school’s practice gym, tying his shoe like he fucking owned the place. Yamamoto rubbed his eyes and looked again. The image was still the same. He was still there. He was real.
In disbelief, and half-expecting this person to really be someone else, Yamamoto finally spoke up in a voice smaller than his own.“...Shouhei?”
The other teenager stood to face him. And Yamamoto couldn’t believe his eyes. It was him. Shouhei Fukunaga had grown much taller and broader in the years he’d been away. By… a lot. What hadn’t changed, however, were his round, cat-like eyes and gently sloped lips that upturned a little at the edges in a cute, natural smile. Wait.
Cute?
Fukunaga’s face lit up, ever so subtly, in recognition.“Taketora?”
