Summary
Ash dies in the battle between of Mewtwo and Mew, and is not revived.
Instead, he is transported into a new version of his life, in an alternate timeline, where he is raised by a family of Dragonite for most of his life, before starting his journey. Starting with his Pikachu, he begins his journey. However, after meeting the Hoenn Champion, who seemed concerned with his wellbeing, things take a turn for a worse when small things add up and slowly the vengeful nature of the Mewtwo in this timeline becomes far more recognisable.
Still, Ash persists, making a good friend in Brock, and reconnecting with his rival, while becoming close friends with Steven Stone.
But is that enough?

Summary
People change. Especially after traumatic experiences, and especially after growing older. And while the war is over, and he knows he should relax, everything around Ash is slipping anyway. It doesn't matter if he smiles, if the world around him doesn't smile back. He's on the Orange Islands now, and yet the people he held closest are dying flames.
And the wind is growing, distantly. Ash can't tell if it'll be the wind or themselves to break his friends the most, but for now, he seriously needs to hold onto that slowly flickering hope.

Summary
The first draft of my main long fic up until chapter 18 (because that was all that was written until I changed plot elements at parts). It's bad, rough, and generally messy, but an interesting perspective on how the plot might have got if you have read the "good" version of the fic (Aries). Might contain unintentional spoilers due to changes in when plot was revealed, but nothing major, hopefully.
