At Edinburgh Botanic Garden, Scotland, a group of Eranthis hyemalis (winter aconite, winter wolf's bane) were flowering in late winter. This small perennial has a cup-shaped yellow flower, surrounded by divided leafy bracts. The basal leaves are divided into several lobes. This plant is ideal for planting under deciduous trees and shrubs.

the first flowers in my garden to bloom each year are the Winter Aconite. They start before the snow is even finished.
