What’s the best cartoon for children? How about “none of them”? Animation is literally cinema and cannot be appreciated by minors.
Wouldn't it be cool if you can make a good movie that children can enjoy and adults can enjoy even more?
The Lion King, The Incredibles, The Prince of Egypt, all of these are fantastic movies with tons of meaning that are fun for kids to watch, but provide so much more meaning as an adult. Plus it's not like kids are unable to pick up some of the more subtle tones. They're more intelligent than most people give them credit for.
L take. As a matter of fact, I showed my young son (16) The Incredibles and instead of immediately joining The Incredibles fandom to discuss Incredibles lore and write RPF (Real Person FanFiction) about the Incredibles voice cast like I did, he said it was “ok” and left for his job or school or whatever it is he does. So yeah, suffice to say he WAS unable to pick up on the “subtle tones.”
L take. By allowing your child to engage in media with complex themes at a younger age and develop an affinity for them they may return to that same media at a later age and reexamine the themes and subjects they didn’t notice when they were younger. Additionally, they develop an early affinity for stories with deeper themes thus setting a precedent for engaging with complex media that they can carry with them as they age.
If we do not give the entertainment and media we present to our children proper attention and instead give them mindless, meaningless attention grabbing slop then they will be less likely to want to engage with more complex topics in the future without an outside influence encouraging them to delve into something they’ve never experienced, a situation with a less than optimized execution.
This.
So. Much. This.
THIS is why I make my other 4 children (ages 3, 4, 5 and 6) watch 12-13 hours/day of Super Mario Logan— to ensure that when they are older they will be able to appreciate complex media such as Object Shows.
I truly detest the limits of written text to convey tone and proper implication.
Because you are either the most disappointing person in the world or a mediocre troll.

I get, that this is like, A Bit, or whatever, but... like fuck off man. Leave the dadaist-adjacent shitposting to dril.
Well looks like it finally happened. The Tony Zaret Post Fandom has turned toxic, just like the subject of my new fandom drama video essay:

okay i can't tell if this is satire but in case it's not:
what if he didn't like it? i didn't enjoy Incredibles, or Megamind, or Kung Fu Panda, and maybe even Shrek, simply because my tastes are different. I enjoy weird creatures and whimsy and soviet animated films and moomintrolls! oh god moomintrolls...
i enjoy media that is often rooted in books, or that goes back a while and has that very specific whimsy vibe? I liked Doctor Who a lot, for example. And I don't really enjoy 3D animation. 🤷🏽
people are allowed to not enjoy things that you enjoy, yk
Hi - OP here, it WAS satire. You see, what actually happened was my son showed ME the Incredibles and explained that he was a part of the Incredibles fandom, a community of creative individuals who were inspired by the Incredibles to create transformative works such as his Incredibles OC, Incrediblesaurus, an anthropomorphic dinosaur Incredible. When I said that sounded fun and asked how I could join the fandom, he said that unfortunately I was too old for fandom and that adults like me could only enjoy age-appropriate activities such as taxes.
