Hey so if you didn’t know, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is the best thing that anyone’s ever done with Spider-Man in nearly 20 years* and you should go watch it.

*aside from the Spider-Verse movies

Okay, I'm sure it is, and I'm glad that people are having fun with it...but this is exactly what I'm talking about.

The MCU was considered the best thing that happened to the character, until it wasn't.

Spider-Man PS4 was considered to be the best thing to happen to the character, until it wasn't.

And I'm sure that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is the best thing to happen to the character, but I'm also positive that by Season Two--Or even Season THREE--it'll do something that'll change that too.

Heck, if Beyond the Spider-Verse ends up being disappointing in any way shape or form, I guarantee people will turn their backs on those movies too.

It's tiring. All of this hyperbole and dick measuring about the character is getting exhausting to the point where...I think I'm out. I'll still read, watch, and play whatever involves Spider-Man, but I don't want to talk about him anymore. Because if "The best thing that happened to the character" keeps changing every five years, with the conversation quickly turning into screaming matches...What's the point?

Sorry you feel that way.

Trust me when I say I’m not “turning my back” on anything, and my intent with this post isn’t to lift the new show up by dragging the prior properties down or disparaging them.

I can understand being irritated by a repetitive fandom behavior, but the reason that the phenomenon you describe happens (not just with Spider-Man, but with basically everything after a fashion) is that you don’t realize what ‘the best’ is until you’ve experienced it.

Maybe the second or third season of the show will do something that lessen’s my or others enthusiasm for it. Maybe the third Spider-Verse movie will disappoint (with that movie’s Production Hell it’ll be a minor miracle if it doesn’t).

But, if I can blunt, those future movies/seasons don’t exist yet, and we can only judge what we have. I think it sounds like a needlessly cynical way to approach things to observe people being enthusiastic and positive about something with the mindset of “yeah well you’ll turn your back on it later.” Especially, again, for a post like mine which doesn’t disparage other previous versions to make that point.

I feel at that stage, you’re assuming disingenuousness, and if you’ve found yourself in that headspace then yeah, it’s probably a good idea to disengage from fandom for a while.

You're right and I'm sorry for my reaction. You weren't putting down either property I mentioned just to lift Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man up. And you're also right in saying that the other shoe hasn't dropped yet...But this fandom has CONDITIONED me to expect that by now, as bad as it sounds. This constant "This is the best, fuck the other things" is, like I said, tiring. And maybe the reason why is because...I still like the things people are crapping on.

I still love MCU Spider-Man, despite the imperfections. I still love PS4 Spider-Man, despite a less than perfect sequel. And I'm sure I'll enjoy Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, even if it MIGHT do something "wrong" in the future. I'm just...DONE dealing with Spider-Man fans, especially the ones who hold the character too high on a pedestal that if you so much try to talk about YOUR favorite Spider-Man, you'll likely get chewed out because it doesn't compare to OTHERS favorites. It worsens the enjoyment of the character every time and, yeah, I'm definitely not going to engage with it for a while.

If ever.

Yeah, unfortunately (as it often does) fandom tends to disappoint here

I wonder if DBI feels validated by people immediately shipping Immy and Vee, because if I made two characters that were gonna become love interests and then EVERYONE shipped them IMMEDIATELY I would be giddy lol. A testament to good character writing

Hello Deep Space Discounts community!

Here is why I think it should be 'Immvee' and not 'Vimmy'

1. 'Immvee' is a completly unique tag that currently only has deep space discounts post on it, 'Vimmy' is not

2. Immvee is equal parts Immy and Vee and I personally prefer that a lot to when a shipname is just - Character A's name with a different letter in front

3. I just think it's pretty neat, look at it it's got such a nice flow with the double letters and stuff

Thank you for coming to my tedtalk about space lesbians

Fuck it, I’m sold

If you’re an Amazing Digital Circus fan you ought to check out the new animated web-series Deep Space Discounts!

Honestly check it out if you’re a fan of web animation at all, but it’s got some major TADC vibes packed in.

Plus, it’s all about condemning prison labor, which we should all be here for!

“I don’t understand shippers” me neither. I don’t understand my own inability to consume media without allowing two fictional characters who stared at each other a little too long that one time to completely take over my brain.
