So legitimately, is there a secret non-plastic fake leather that I don't know about? Because that's the implication from the poll, and purely from someone who sews and is into fabrics, I really want to know what they're thinking of? I mean I guess you can maybe get rubber to look vaguely leather like? But I'm honestly wondering if there's some non-plastic thing out there that I'm just not aware of.
companies and artists have claimed to have made leather-like materials out of orange peels, cacti, fungus, you name it. whenever you take a closer look it always turns out to be held together and sealed with plastic.
I think the op of the polls is just trying to get a read on leather vs denim jacket aesthetic without engaging in the leather discourse and is failing to dodge it no matter what caveat or explanation or exception they try to paste over the whole leather thing. Their first attempt was blatantly to try to dodge the vegans, who they assumed would jump on them first, and they walked backwards right into the "fake leather is plastic" crowd, who are objectively correct, but still, I believe the poll-making OP here is interested in a question of competing aesthetics, not animal product related politics.
I mean I'm going to interpret it as sustainably sourced people leather too, because I'm a bad person who loves it when people suffer benignly over petty things that don't matter. I will do this despite my usual argument that human people are also animals, because it suits me to be a gremlin about this.
