Aboriginal people, specifically, have been spoken about on tumblr as if we weren't literally there to defend ourselves or speak about or own experiences. As if we do not have an internet connection. As if Aboriginal people don't look at fanart or fanfic or MAKE fanfic or DRAW fanart or participate in fandom culture on the internet (Hello?!?! look at my fucking website you dumb cunt!) Like we just live in the fucking outback and don't know what a movie is and can't be interested in the same media as Whitefella. Like we're outsiders who have no place in fandom. It's certainly how we're treated, at the very least. Some of us just don't care to say outright we're Aboriginal when we're on the internet (usually for our own safety), or if we DO outright say that we're Aboriginal, that information is overlooked until people decide to be racist to us. ...

Endlessly diabolical how you can't say words like rape and suicide uncensored without either being criticised by idiots or punished by conglomerates.
It's not r*pe, it's rape. It's not su*cide, it's suicide. Not unalive, dead. The backbone needs to be reintroduced en masse because softening the blow of these concepts with advertising language does absolutely nothing but allow people unaffected by them to feel not even a sting of what they can do, prompting inaction.
And it's been proven that on certain websites, you don't even face a repercussion for using the words as they are. People just started censoring themselves because they feared the potential lack of views and likes and followers which is so nasty itself.
I attended an anti-suicide seminar in college. One of the big takeaways from it was that stigmatizing suicide increases the rate of suicide, because people who are feeling suicidal feel like they can't ask for help. Every time I see babytalk garbage like 'unalive', I think of that.

like if you actually looked into any modern antifascist scholarship on this you would very quickly realise that facebook is the beating heart of the global fascist movement and people have been sounding the alarm on this for years
to expand on this: some teens and young adults got radicalized on 4chan, it is true, but what happenned after that? after their attacks? people just kind of shook their heads, called it a pity, and labelled them as deranged outsiders while shaking their fists at minorities whenever we yelled a bit too hard, cheering on soldiers and cops killing people, killing kids. the fascists are not dangerous because a lone wolf will shoot people sometimes, they're dangerous because they're more than happy to cultivate an environment where killers can go ham on minorities without repercussions, see Kyle Rittenhouse.
the part misinformation has played in this especially on facebook and twitter simply cannot be overstated.
the antivax movement keeps spreading through the website your nan goes to. your brother is hearing about the transgender menace on spotify. bsky is mostly chill for now but it's already starting to have its pockets of reactionaries.
fascism is out there and it doesn't have a stronghold. it is spreading through completely mundane and mainstream websites. it is everywhere and thinking that 4chan is the fascism website where the only thing that happens is fascism is asinine. it's a website like any other, and thinking it's exceptionally dangerous both misrepresents the majority of its actual use and gravely downplays the role of other websites in the rise of global fascism, and not just in the IC.
