In the remote Buddhist monastery of Haeinsa is preserved the Tripitaka Koreana, the most complete corpus of Buddhist doctrinal texts in the world, dating from 1251.

Where we first see the 4 classical elements (fire, earth, water, air)? Do they really just get independently develop in various societies or all those diferent traditions that incorporate them come from a common root?

Avatar

At least in the west the first guy to write em down was Empedocles and then Aristotle. But yeah they really do independently develop across multiple civilizations.

It's pretty common sense! They translate to the most commonly observed states of matter. Earth is solids, water is liquids, air is gasses, and fire kinda has to be its own thing.

Theres always variations. For example the wuxing element system doesn't have air, and deals more with how matter changes. The Indian element system also has Sound as a distinct element, and Japanese systems have lightning as a distinct element.

Hey thank yall for joining the stream it was a blast. If you want updates on stream schedules the discord is in da pinned

they got rid of the classical elements & replaced it with something called the 'four harmonious insects' so now instead of fire, water, etc we have moth, spider, leech and worm.

Is it actually profound or is it making a vague biblical allusion

if I could fuck music I'd go Chronos mode on the baby to gain it's power

Reading amber skies and emerald seas feels like zooming into a fractal very slowly, in characters, world, ecology, language, religion, just, all of it. Every word is its own branching spiral of branching spirals of questioning and wonderful. I love the descriptions of massive mind rending structures. I love when the characters seem to be walking down a path stretched to what appears to be an infinitely small point only to step through a door onto another path that could be walked till the end of days while completely different from the previous. Thank you for writing, I love the character that is the teleths, I love the characters that hang trail markers in their massive halls, do not forget to stretch and drink water. I love your art.
