Mary Synge is the daughter of Rt. Rev. Edward Synge and Barbara Latham.1,2 She and Commander Bryan Townsend obtained a marriage license on 13 May 1682.1,3

Rt. Rev. Edward Synge was baptised on 14 August 1614.2 He was the son of Richard Synge and Alice Rowley.2 He married Barbara Latham, daughter of William Latham.2 He died on 22 December 1677 at age 63.2
He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)2 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG, with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.)2 He held the office of Bishop of Ardfert in 1661.1 He held the office of Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross in 1663.1
