Richard Townsend was born on 15 July 1684.2 He was the son of Commander Bryan Townsend and Mary Synge.1,3 He married Mary Synge, daughter of Very Rev. Samuel Synge and Mary Boyle, after 23 March 1707/8.3 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Becher, daughter of Henry Becher and Catherine Owen, in 1724. He died in November 1742 at age 58.2 His will was proven (by probate) on 11 November 1742.4
He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) in 1715.4 He held the office of High Sheriff of County Cork in 1726.3,4 He lived at Castle Townsend, County Cork, IrelandG.3

Commander Bryan Townsend was born circa 1648.2 He was the son of Colonel Richard Townsend and Mary Hyde.3 He and Mary Synge obtained a marriage license on 13 May 1682.1,2 He died in 1726.4
He gained the rank of Commander in the Royal Navy, H.M.S. Swiftsure.1 He purchased Derry in 1686.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Clonakilty in 1695.1 He lived at Londonderry, County Londonderry, IrelandG.1 He lived at Castle Townsend, County Cork, IrelandG.1
