Cognate with Middle Low German hogen, hȫgen (“to think, remember, imagine”), Middle Dutch hogen (“to think about, remember, rejoice, desire, remind”), Old High German hogēn (“to consider, heed, be careful”), Middle High German hogen, hugen, hügen (“to think, ponder, desire, rejoice, be pleased, long for, want, remember”), Old Norse huga (“to think about, consider”).
