MasterCard Online Casinos for Real Money

The number of MasterCard online casinos is impressive, but that should come as no surprise when you consider that the company processes well over 74 billion transactions in a year. The majority of these are comprised of mundane purchases such as groceries and household items, but a sliver of the population also uses the card to deposit money into an account at their favorite online casinos.

This article takes a brief look at the various cards that can be used for such purposes. We’ll also examine the highs and lows of doing business with MasterCard, although I think you’ll find that the positives far outweigh the negatives.

The Legality of MasterCard Online Casino Deposits

I get lots of questions about whether or not it is legal to use a MasterCard or other branded credit or debit card to make a deposit to an online casino. The question is understandable, considering the position of the US government on the issue.

The bottom line is that it is legal to use a MasterCard to make a deposit in almost all cases, except in countries or regions where gambling is illegal or some other law exists making such a transfer illegal. I realize that sentence is a little bit obvious, but it’s the truth.

I’ll give an example of an area where a MasterCard deposit is not technically “legal:” in the United States. Because the US government has declared that it is illegal for a financial institution to handle a funds transfer from an American to a known online gaming site, Americans are technically not able to make a deposit with a MasterCard.

If you’re concerned about the legality of this deposit method, check your local laws or consult a lawyer familiar with gaming law.

Types of Available Cards

When you become a member with this company, you’ll find a number of cards available to you. Since all of them can be used to transfer money to a casino, let’s take a brief look at each deposit option.

Credit Cards – When you receive a credit card from MasterCard, you can count on it being accepted at most businesses across the planet. Just hand the cashier your card, or enter it online, and payment immediately takes place.

This charge is added to your monthly statement, and you have the option to pay some or all of it. If you only cover a portion of the cost, then you’ll be charged a small percentage of interest and the new total rolls over to the following month.

Prepaid – The customer can load any amount of money onto this type of card, and purchases are deducted from the balance. When funds begin to run low, it’s common to reload the card with more money.

This can be accomplished by transferring cash from your bank account, or you can head to a convenience store or post office and receive a voucher. While the former is more convenient, both remain viable options.

Gift Cards – Similar to the prepaid option, the gift card allows the buyer to load a specific amount of money onto a card and then give it to someone else as a present. As long as the balance remains on the positive side, the new owner can then make as many transactions as they desire.

Unlike prepaid cards, however, additional funds cannot be loaded onto a gift card. Once the balance has been depleted, the most common action is to throw them into the trash.

Debit – You’ll receive this type of card from your bank, and it’s tied directly to your account. When a purchase is made–or a deposit delivered to a gambling account–the money is withdrawn directly from the available funds in your bank.

This card can be used as long as you have a ready supply of cash. If your balance is zero, the card ceases to be of use.

Reasons to Use MasterCard

Here are some of the most common reasons why customers use MasterCard to make purchases and fund their online gambling:

Reputation – When people think of credit cards, this brand is right up there with Visa and American Express. They’ve been around since the 1960s, and they’ve built a strong customer base during that time.

Reliability – Transaction are made within seconds, and funds always go where they’re supposed to. While the ability to rely on a credit card company is often taken for granted, it’s essential to ensure customers satisfaction.

Volume – As mentioned earlier, MasterCard deals with over 20 billion transactions during a calendar year. When you process that kind of volume, you’ve got to have your act together.

Widely Accepted – No matter what business you walk into or what online casino you visit, there’s a strong chance that this company is listed among their deposit options.

Drawbacks of Using MasterCard

Since they conduct business on a global scale, MasterCard works hard to stay on the good side of the various governments around the world. And since online gambling—and even land-based gaming—is frowned upon or outright banned by some nations, this financial giant has a firm policy of not allowing casino winnings to be transferred onto their credit cards.

Things are even worse for customers in the United States, as the company won’t allow deposits or withdrawals for the purposes of online wagering. This is due to the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, which prohibited such transactions and put banking institutions squarely within the crosshairs of the American federal government. As for as funding online gaming goes, it’s as if MasterCard doesn’t even exist to U.S. players.

The phrase “MasterCard online casinos” could just as easily be changed to “almost every non-American Internet casino on the planet.” That’s because the credit card firm is a titan within the banking industry, servicing millions of customers per day and offering dependable service in the process. While U.S. residents are prohibited due to federal law, the rest of the world can fill up their casino accounts with lightning-fast efficiency.
