You can find a wide range of associations at SDU or in your campus city, where you can meet friends outside of your studies. 

"I joined the Beachvolley Klub, which turned out to be an incredible way to meet people. I connected with many international students who could relate to my experience, which made it easy to bond. It was also a fantastic opportunity to make Danish friends and immerse myself in the local culture. Playing beachvolley together really helped break the ice and build meaningful relationships."

You may need to put an effort into making new friends, but you will be rewarded with great friendships and experiences.

"When I first moved to Denmark, it was easy to connect with my classmates since most of us are internationals, and we quickly bonded.

Making Danish friends takes effort because they are often reserved at first, but once they open up, they are amazing people and friends. My advice is: talk to your colleagues, join a local sports team, and don’t be shy, be the one to make the first move and talk to them."

You can meet new people through the many associations and events at SDU – and the projects and group work you will be involved in as part of your programme also offer great opportunities to make new friends. 

“When I first came to Denmark as a student, I felt a bit lost and overwhelmed. But I quickly discovered that finding your group of people can make all the difference.

For me, joining student organisations and going to their events helped me meet people outside my programme. My study group also became a big part of my close friends - after all, nothing bonds you like late-night study sessions!”
