IN THE TRAINING
CREATE AN ACCOUNT

To sign up for a free LinkedIn account you’ll need a professional sounding

email address. Do not use inappropriate references in your email address. You
may need to create a new email account that is simple, using only your name.
• Once you have signed up, LinkedIn will guide you through how to create a
profile. Your profile will be easier for employers to find if you complete all
sections.
STEP-1: PROFILE PICTURE

Your profile photo should be a recent professional image.

be you on your own
be set against a plain background
have your face in the centre of the frame
be a good quality picture, not blurry
• be well lit so your face is visible
Your profile photo will appear at the top of your LinkedIn profile and alongside your
name and headline in various places across the platform, including search research
and beside your posts on the homepage.
STEP-2 : BANNER/BACKGROUND PICTURE

• Your background photo is the second visual element at the top of your profile
page. It grabs people’s attention, sets the context and shows a little more
about what matters to you. More than anything, the right background photo
helps your page stand out, engage attention and stay memorable.
• Your background doesn’t need to be a photo of you ,though it can be.
STEP-3: HEADLINES

• You have 120 characters to create a headline that promotes who you are to your network. This can
get attention of the recruiters, employer or anyone network. It maybe the only information people
see when you comment on people’s post. It can also be shown to your network’s contact.
• Make your headline fit the job you want. Include
1. Who you are
2. What you do
3. What you want to be
• Make your headline attracts the kind of employer you want to work with ,it should be enough to get
them to read more about you or connect with you on LinkedIn.
STEP-4: ABOUT

• The first thing to say about your LinkedIn summary is – make sure you have one! It’s amazing how
many people still leave this field blank when creating their LinkedIn profile. Your summary is your
chance to tell your own story – so don’t just use it to list your skills or the job titles you’ve had. Try
to bring to life why those skills matter – and the difference they can make to the people you work
with. Don’t be afraid to invest some time, try a few drafts, and run your summary past people you
know. This is your most personal piece of content marketing – and it’s worth the effort.
• Our regular rankings of the most over-used buzzwords include terms like ‘specialized’, ‘leadership’,
‘focused’, ‘strategic’, ‘experienced’, ‘passionate’, ‘expert’, ‘creative’, ‘innovative’ and ‘certified’.
Now I’m not saying you can’t describe yourself as these things – or that they don’t matter. However,
just using these words won’t convince people that you have these qualities.
STEP 5 EDUCATION

• List your formal education under the • Master of Business Administration-

education section. For each entry, you
• XYZ University 2020
can include your school,
degree/diploma/certificate field of • Concentration in Marketing
study, dates attended, and other related • Bachelor of Science in Computer
activities. You could also add a Science
description-detailing relevant
coursework, for example-and attach • ABC University, 2016
media. • Magna Cum Laude
