MINI PROJECT
HOW THE DAY OF THE DEAD IS CELEBRATED IN
ACAPULCO GUERRERO

The celebration of the Day of the Dead is distinguished by the

smell of copal, of bread coming out of the ovens that the
indigenous people make in their homes, of mandarin, of
country flowers such as marigolds and velvet, but above all
these dates are characterized by rituality and the fervor of how
the living coexist with the living and of course, with the dead.
In Guerrero, diversity is manifested in the different ways in
which social groups hold their celebrations, some with great
expense and others with more moderation, everyone holds their
festivities as a custom and tradition that their ancestors have
inherited.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE PANTHEONS

Some families spend the night in the cemeteries, which are open 24 hours a
day during this date. During the evenings, musical groups are usually hired to
perform the favorite songs of the deceased at the foot of their tomb.
OFRENDAS

They are received with an offering where their favorite food and
drink, fruit, candy skulls and, if applicable, toys for the children
are placed. There is also no shortage of photographs of the
deceased and colorful cempasúchil flowers. A very important part
of this tradition involves visiting cemeteries. Whether during the
day or night, families come and place candles on the graves as a
way to light the path of the souls as they return home.
