Bonding standard operating procedure
1. Objective
To ensure that the products manufactured fit the purpose and meets the customer expectations.

2. Scope
This procedure covers the development stage, bulk pre-production stage up to bulk production stage.

3. Responsibility
All positions mentioned will follow the below procedure to take responsibility and be accountable for
the results.

4. Guideline
Testing per bonding product types (both development and bulk stage)
● Bonding Machine Settings (time, pressure, and temperature)
● Manual Bonding Process Flow

5. Procedure
5.1. Development Stage - Preparation and Testing
a. Development MR will send a piece of fabric to Bonding Supplier for internal testing.
b. Follow the Bonding Supplier’s bonding condition to make the mock-up.
c. Check the mock-up quality by stretching diagonal, vertical, and horizontal.
d. If failed, adjust the Bonding machine settings until it will pass and record the setting data.
e. If passed, proceed In-house 25 wash tests
f. If passed, submit mock-up for BV Bond strength testing.
g. If passed, stamp and affix signature with date on each specimen and bulk mock-up form and
return it to Bonding Technical.
h. If failed, inform the bonding technical for the rejections found and advise to submit another
set of the bulk mock-up until it will pass

5.2. Bulk Production Stage - Pre-Inline Preparation
a. Bonding Technical will prepare the fabrics, film /tape, approved mock-up, internal bonding SOP and hard pattern.
b. Bonding Technical will provide the approved mock-up to the bonding operator.
c. Bonding Technical will set the machine settings for pressure and dwelling time based on the approved mock-up, inform the QC
to set the machine setting for temperature using heat probe device based on the approved mock-up, and inform the operator to
proceed with bonding operation.
d. Bonding Operator will conduct a test run using the actual cut panels 5-10 pieces to test the quality of the logo and forward to
QC for quality checking.
e. QC will verify the placement of the molding and hard pattern then conduct quality checking of the tested cut panels based on
the approved mock-up and internal bonding SOP.
● If passed, inform the bonding operator together with the bonding technical to proceed with bulk production.
● If failed, inform bonding operator and pad print technical to solve the rejection until it will pass.
f. Bonding Technical will evaluate the rejection found by the QC.
● If can repair, inform bonding operator to repeat the test and remind the proper handling during operation until it will pass.
● If cannot repair, replace another piece of a cut panel for testing.

5.3. Daily Testing
a. Wash Technician will relaxes the specimens for four hours before the testing.
b. Wash Technician will record the result in the Bulk Stage and returns the specimens with the attachment of testing results to
the Sub-Process QC. If failed, he/she shall send an email to Sub-process QC/Supervisor/Manager and advise to submit another
specimen for re-testing.
c. QC Supervisor will evaluate the rejection found.
● If caused by mishandling, let the operator perform another specimen and submit it to the wash lab for a re-wash test.
● If caused by bonding film/tape issue, inform the Factory MR to communicate with the Suppliers for the issue until it will pass.

5.4. Temperature Checking


QC will conduct roving on each bonding machine every 2 hours to check the machine settings and conduct temperature checking
using a digital thermometer device if correct based on the approved mock-up, and print the thermal result and attach it to the
Daily In Process Checks Heat Transfer Prints form.
If failed, adjust the thermal controller and re-conduct temperature checking until it will pass.

5.5. Quality Inspection
QC Inspection
a. QC will check the panels based on the approved mock-up.
b. QC conduct roving on each machine every 2hrs and conduct a 10% quality checking (top, middle, and bottom by checking
the appearance based on the approved mock-up and record the result in the Daily In Process Checks-Heat Transfer Prints.
● If passed, inform bonding operator to proceed the operation and proceed to the next machine.
● If failed, advice the bonding operator to stop the operation and inform the bonding technical for the rejection found.
c. Bonding Technical will evaluate the rejection found by the QC to identify the causes.
● If can repair, inform Bonding Operator to repeat the test and remind the proper handling during operation until it will pass.
● If cannot repair, replace another piece of cut panel for testing.

6. Bonding Machine Operation

7. Administration
This procedure is subject to the regular management review every year in the last month of the year, and/or as the need arises.
Furthermore, all discussions during the management review shall be put into record in the minutes of the meeting. QMS Auditor
will conduct an audit monthly to check the process is being followed and sustain.

KNIT PERFORMANCE FABRIC - ADULT

• Evaluation
Bond strength of bonded, fused and laminated apparel fabrics

Citation / Method
ASTM D2724-19

Criteria
Applicable to bonded Fabrics
Dot glue 3 lbf/inch minimum
Film or other 10 lbf/inch minimum
Note: Submitters provide mock up fabric in 10 x 10".
Mock up fabric include 1 inch slit opening (without glue).
Lab will cut the required specimen size from mock up

KNIT PERFORMANCE FABRIC - ADULT

• Durability of Components and Prints in the twin-Tub/Durawash


Citation / Method - Print retention when exposed to twin tub/durawash

Criteria - (5 washes] [For Bonded sample only] its the preferred test.
Lab should proceed this test if have test capability
Evaluation after 1st, 3rd and 5th washes.
No obvious defects/observations affecting the end product performance/appearance,
no bubbling, puckering, crack marks or blisters, or face fabric pilling List all observations

**Buyer requires the garment factory to perform 25 in-house wash tests.

Preparation
• BEFORE GETTING STARTED
Materials should be tested for adhesive compatibility
Refer to Test Report and Product Data for adhesive recommendations and coordinating bonding conditions
Measure the Glue Line Temperature of application to verify the recommended bonding conditions
