Backformation

Backformation is a word-formation process in


morphology where a new word is created by
removing an affix from an already existing
word. Back formation is thus the opposite of
derivation: C – B = A as opposed to A + B = C.

Babysitter Emotion Creative


Babysitter – (-er) = Babysit Emotion – (-ion) = Emote Creative – (-ive) = Create
(-er) is inluded in agentive suffix

Natural Enthusiasm Lazy


Enthusiasm – (-asm) = Enthuse Lazy – (-y) = Laze

Conversion
- Conversion is a word formation process in which a word is
assigned a change in syntactic category without any change in
form.

- Conversion also called as zero derivational, or a word form that


doesn't need to be added or remove a morphemes to make it a
new word.

- In conversion a word which has the same grammatical and same


meaning, doesn't really has the same class word.
Example
