HUMAN RESOURCE

DEVELOPMENT
HRD ACTIVITIES
Employee Development
Activities
○ The success and failure of an organization depend on its employees. It is rightly said
that employees can either make or break a brand. You just can’t afford to ignore an
individual who is directly responsible for accomplishing the goals and objectives of
your organization.
○ Trainings and employee development activities play a crucial role in developing
employees and preparing them for adverse situations and unforeseen circumstances.
○  It is really essential to upgrade your skills and knowledge to stand apart from the
rest. Remember, one needs to grow with time.
○ Managers or human resource professionals must take initiatives to assess the skills
and knowledge of employees and design relevant training programs in line with their
interest areas, needs and requirements. The training programs ought to be meaningful
and must add value to the employees.

Approaches to Employee
Development
7 approaches to development that will deliver the best growth and impact:
○ Stretch assignments and projects. Think about what special assignments might
exist in the coming months and who on your team would benefit from serving on a
cross-functional team while developing additional skills.
○ Job Enrichment. These opportunities typically exist internally that will benefit an
employee's current role, while creating additional ways to develop. Examples could
include presentations at team meetings, joining a diversity committee or volunteering.
○ Mentoring or Coaching. Whether or not your company has a formal mentoring
program, start small. Mentoring and coaching provides demonstrated benefits around
quality of work, problem solving and communication skills.
○ Job Shadowing. Job shadowing can be a great way for your employees to learn
critical elements of other jobs, while further developing in their own. It is also a great
way for employees to more formally explore potential career

Approaches to Employee
Development
○ opportunities internally, yet outside of their current job.
○ Job Rotation. Providing an opportunity for your team to move and rotate through
one or more positions is another great strategy in employee development. Rotations
can last for days, months, or even a year or two.
○ Promotions. When executed with the right plan, promoting your employees into a
new position is another way to reward great performance, develop skills and increase
motivations.
○ Vestibules. Using vestibules as the employee training means involves the usage of
the same equipment as for the on the job training. The primary difference in both of
these is that the training can be arranged anywhere and anytime. So, the employees
can enjoy the training without any external interruptions and disturbances. So, the
transference of the skill takes place quickly and easily.
