What are Knock offs ?

Knock offs or Replicas are products made with the concept of deceiving the
consumer into thinking that the product being sold is produced by a particular
company or brand. When in fact the product was not produced by that
company.
Knock offs are made for local markets to influence customers to buy fast
fashion in cheaper prices. Replicated goods are a huge business throughout
the world. The main appeal of fashion houses is the brand name..A Gucci bag
can be sold for many times more than an identical bag made by a competitor.
Forgers take advantage of this fact by creating cheap knock-offs and illegally
adding the names of famous and expensive fashion houses. Increasing their
sales and revenue.
Why knock offs are produced ?

All along the history, people have been wearing clothes to cover themselves
and protect themselves from harsh weather conditions including sun, rain, and
cold. However, nowadays clothes are taking a more crucial role in people’s lives
rather than just protecting and covering. People wear clothes to say what they
are thinking; converse with the world. Society can observe and say something
about an individual depending on what they are wearing.

Today, fashion is part of a necessity in the lives of many people as everyone

competes in looking good ,feeling fabulous and feeling that one is living in the
right place. People desire to wear certain clothes and look special, which is all
coming from wearing latest fashions clothes, accessories, shoes, and handbags.
Buying fast Fashion for cheaper prices are affordable and might give an illusion
of the Brand name as well as popularity.

Which puts the industry in an ethical dilemma if production of knock offs are
a threat to the brands or generating profits, revenue and serving fast fashion
at cheaper prices for all economic sections
How do you solve this dilemma ?

• It is ethically wrong to forge products and claim profit on someone else's

work. Although it provides benefits and helps every economic stature to buy
fast fashion at a cheaper price . It is unethical and profit should be
compromised for moral ethics and conscious
• To protect your brand against replica and counterfeits :
• Register Your Trademarks: Registration of trademarks is an important step in
protecting your brands. Federal registration allows you to enforce your
trademarks.
• Update your model fast—every month if you can. It takes counterfeiters a
month to reverse engineer a genuine product and bring it to market. A model
that changes every month is hard to copy. If your manufacturing and supply
chain allow fast model updates and if this is in line with your overall strategy,
by all means use this tactic.
• Register Your Trademarks With Customs Agencies: Another critical but
sometimes overlooked step is to register your trademarks with the customs
agencies.
• Use Technology: Technology can be used within the product itself. In clothing,
for example, you could add a partially invisible thread that creates a brand-
specific pattern that is visible only under certain lighting. You could similarly
use a hologram security image or a company-specific color in plastic.
• Educate Consumers: In order to prevent consumers from buying counterfeit
goods, you must provide them with the information necessary to make
educated purchases. Provide information through websites, such as The
Counterfeit Report, to identify places that sell counterfeit goods and to
provide a list of authorized dealers. Tell consumers how to identify and report
counterfeit goods.
