A laptop, often called a notebook is a small, portable
personal computer with a “clamshell” form factor, an
alphanumeric keyboard on the lower part of the “
clamshell” and a thin LCD or LED computer screen on
the upper portion, which is opened up to use the
computer.
Laptops are very complex, because they have a lot of
circuits and components. The main components are
the motherboard, RAM, processor, hard disk
capacity and battery size. These vary from laptop to
laptop, alongside with the display in size and
resolution, the build quality and even the input-
output interfaces.

The operating principle
The essential components required in order to make
a laptop work, are hardware and software.
Component parts:
-A standard laptop combines the components, inputs,
outputs, and capabilities of a desktop computer, including the
display screen, small speakers, a keyboard, hard disk drive,
optical disc drive pointing devices ( such as a touchpad or
trackpad), a processor, and memory into a single unit. Most
laptops also have integrated webcams and built-in
microphones.

Laptop Classification
Standard: has the same capacity as a desktop, with similar level of
performance. It is bigger with a 15 inches display and has 2-3 kg.
-Netbook: the display has 12-13 inches and does not have certain
specifications.
-Notebook: the display is 14-17 inches and has a stronger configuration than a
netbook.
-Ultra-portable: are very thin, 1-2 kg. They have low-power processor and the
hard disk and the RAM memory have smaller capacity.
-Entry level- has weak performance ( netbooks are part of this category).
-Home user: is the most common laptop, has 15,4-17 inches display and has a
variation of configuration
- Business- is similar to the Home user laptop, the difference being that it is
more resistant, has biometric passwords
- Gaming laptops: are bigger with a lot of RAM memory, more powerful
hardware platforms (
