Senior High School”
RATIONALE
 Gadgets is a necessity in a student's life and also an
important technology device to them. They are basically
used for making and receiving calls, text, and picture
messaging and accessing the internet. Today's students are
extremely competent in the use of gadgets. Students
consider the devices as a pleasant, individual possession in
which no other devices is observed . Gadgets use the
classroom is still somewhat controversial but the Calgary
board if education actually encourages it as a learning tool.
(Hayhomthwaite and Andrews ,2007).
This research will be conducted in University of Cebu lapu-lapu
and mandaue campus to the selected senior high school
students. To know how much students use gadgets on their
academics. Gadgets play a vital role in the educational field in
order to improve the skills and knowledge of the students. Some
schools do not allow students to carry mobile phones because
they distract students and impact negatively on their academic
performance. And it also moral decay if they allow students to
carry mobile phones. Gadgets nowadays are the basic need for a
student especially to their academic performances. Using
gadgets a student start becoming stupid, dependable, and
careless and all his of her work with the help of gadgets. Instead
of concentrating on their academic works, like doing
assignments, seatwork's, etc. They gave more emphasis to the
use of mobile phone in their classes.
According Daisy Christodoulou "Gadgets have their place
in education but they are substitute to knowledge" . In the
study of Daisy Christodoulou the immense computing
power of process will only make learning easier . Of the
researcher acknowledger it will never make it effortless.
However while distraction may blinds learning, technology
does not always lead to destruction. Herbert Simon stated
that "although we have a reasonable basis for hope they
we may find ways to make learning process more efficient,
we should not expect to produce the miracle of effortless
learning".
This study aims to know how selected senior
high school students use gadgets in connection
to their academic needs. It is important to
know if gadgets are really the primary solution
to improve or make the student life easy
especially in their academic performance or it
has only a negative effect on students to
manage their time in using gadget on their
academics.
 THEORITICAL BACKGROUND
• The Nudge Theory of Slinger, digital products are essay
sources to project similar to hopes and dreams, perhaps
even easier given the powerful hold of things associated
with innovation. This study will concentrate on the
frequency of gadget usage and academic performance of
a student. The theory is concentrating on knowing on
how many students frequently use their gadgets and how
can this affect to their academic performance.
Technology/gadgets has become a general and crucial
part of our lives.
Researchers have begun examining the impacts that gadgets has
on individuals as well as on academic performance.

According to the Regency Effect Theory of Miller and Campbell


(1959) gadgets are mostly use in school or in their homes both for
academic and personal use. The usage of gadgets in any location
will agree with duration of the student's usage of the gadgets.

In addition to Retention Ability, there are about 10 factors that can


affect the student's retention and proponents have chosen two
which is the teacher and the student's environment. The teachers
role is needed important to the student's ability to retain. Based
on retention ability theory, "we cannot memorize a lot of stuffs".
Further more Consistency Theory, when our inner
system ( beliefs, attitudes, values, needs etc.) all
support one another and when these are also
supported by external evidence, then we have
comfortable state of affairs. Some students likes to
study while using gadgets to improve their academic
performances but when it is abused this can destroy
their future. The discomfort of dissonance occurs
when things fall out of alignment, which leads us to
try achieve a maximum practical level of consistency.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
 The main purpose of this study is to determine the
academic performance and use of electronic gadgets
among senior high school students in University of
Cebu Lapu-lapu Mandaue for the first semester of the
school year 2018-2019. The result of this study will be
the implementation of the sport fest that involves
gadgets in University of Cebu Lapu-lapu Mandaue.
1. What is the profile of senior high school students in University of Cebu
Lapu-lapu Mandaue in terms of:

1.1 Age
1.2 Gender
1.3 Year and section

2. Is there any relationship between the profile and the kind of electronic
gadgets used by senior high school students in University of Cebu Lapu-
lapu Mandaue?

3. What are the different electronic gadgets used by senior high school
students in University of Cebu Lapu-lapu Mandaue?

4. Does the frequent use of electronic gadgets affects the academic


performance of the senior high school students in University of Cebu
Lapu-lapu Mandaue?
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
• This study is descriptive in nature and focused on selected senior high
school Students that involves gadgets. The research sample is composed
of selected senior high school students in University of Cebu Lapu-lapu
Mandaue. The primary data gathering method used was questionnaire to
determine the students based on their experience and through their
interactions.

This research used purposive and convenience sampling in which equal


representation of age, gender, and year and section. This study aims to know
the effects of the usage if gadgets such as cell phones to their academic
performance.

The study is delimited to the teachers and students who do not frequently
engaged in the use of gadgets. This research will be conducted for the first
semester of the school year 2018-2019.
SIGNIFICANT OF THE STUDY
• This study will be significant to the students that excessively use their gadgets to the
point that they are addicted to it. It can be a guide to them on how to control the usage of
their said gadgets.

Parents- For them to control their children in making such decision in excessively using their
gadgets.

Teachers- For them to understand the students better. By this study they will come up on
how to manage such as students.

Students- For them to be aware if using gadget as a good effects or bad effects to their
academics performance.

Researchers- Will be skillful in doing the research. It can also improve their background
knowledge about the effects of using gadgets in class.

Future researchers- They could base their study similar in this research they won't having
hard time searching for various data's or information regarding with this specific topic.
