INTRODUCTION
Walmart is an American multinational retail corporation that operates a chain of
hypermarkets, discount department stores and grocery stores.
Walmart is world’s largest company by revenue-over US$500 billion.
 Walmart is the largest private employer in the world with 2.3 million employees.
Walmart was founded by Sam Walton on 2th July, 1962 in Rogers, Arkansas, United
States.
Walmart has 11,277 stores and clubs in 27 countries, operating under 55 different names.
In India as Best Price.
HISTORY
1940’s : Sam met James Cash Penney, a departmental store’s founder.
1945 : Sam acquired a franchise of Ben Franklin in Newport, Arkansas.
1950 : Sam purchased a store from Harrison in Bentonville, Arkansas.
1962 : The first discount store was open in Rogers, Arkansas.
1967 : All the stores were named as “Walmart”.
1991 : International Expansion
2003 : Largest cooperation in the world

WALMART'S EXPANSION
(MEXICO & CANADA)
In the year 1991, Walmart became an international company by make a
joint venture with Mexico’ s largest retailer i.e. Cifra, S.A. de C.V.
By the year 2000, Walmart acquired a majority position in Cifra and
renamed as Walmart de Mexico (WALMEX) and it also started
operating bank operations by 2007
Later in 1994, Walmart entered into Canada with acquisition of 122
Woolco stores.

(BRAZIL)
In the year 1995, Walmart entered into brazil with 2 supercenters & 3
Sam’s clubs in the state of Sao Paulo.
After 10 years, Walmart has acquired 118 Bompreco & 140 Sonae in
north & south region of brazil.
In Brazil, Walmart directly takes the products from the producers
through two programmes:
1. Producers’ Club
2. Affordable generic pharmaceutical drugs
WALMART'S EXPANSION
(ARGENTINA & BRITAIN)
Walmart itself entered into the Argentina market in 2007 in the
name of “Changomas”.
In the same year, Walmart opened D.C and acquired three Auchan
stores in Moreno City, Buenos Aires Province.
In 1999, Walmart moved to Britain and acquired ASDA.
It also made some changes in ASDA to reduce the costs.
WALMART'S EXPANSION
(JAPAN & CHINA)
By acquiring the 6.1% stake in Seiyu, Walmart entered into japan in 2002.
By 2008, It acquired the total shares which resulted in delisting of Seiyu from
TSE.
Wal-Mart came to China in 1996. The first Supercenter and SAM's Club were
opened in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.
In the year 2002, Wal-Mart opened its Global Procurement Office opened in
China and had purchased a 35% interest in Trust-Mart by Feb 2007.
WALMART'S LOGISTICS
Walmart has the its unique logistics which acts as the key role for their
success.
Wal-Mart's distribution network began in a rented garage in the 1960s.
Wal-Mart's private fleet is one of America's safest fleets, with 2.5
million miles per preventable accident. Wal-Mart's fleet drivers log
more than 850 million miles per year.
Walmart Logistics takes part in the CSR activities like local
charitable causes and volunteerism programmes in 2007.
CONCLUSION
Walmart has built a world class supply chain to support its stores worldwide.
Every Day Low Price (EDLP) is the cornerstone of Walmart strategy. Today's
customer seeks the convenience of one-stop shopping which Walmart offers.
Across all merchandise categories, the company has three goals:.
1. offer price leadership on top-quality brands
2. ensure clarity of product offerings
3. invest in growth categories.
