 Communication is an activity of all living
creatures; it is developed to a complex stage in
human beings.Although it is an natural activity, it
is also a skill that can be developed.The better
your communication skills, the greater are your
chances of success in any field.Since there are
many false and superficial ideas about
communication; it is necessary to get a clear
understanding of what it means and how it
affects human activity and progress,and how the
skill of communication can contribute to are
success.
 Communication means conveying ones ideas
and thoughts to another person so that both
share ideas. The word “COMMUNICATION”
{which come from the Latin word communicare}
it is used in common talk, usually ,to mean
speaking or writing or sending a message to
another person.It involves ensuring that you
yourself take care to receive, understand,
interprete, and respond to messages that are
send to you. Communication is an important
aspect of behaviour; human communication is
affected by all factors that influence behaviour.
There are many definition given by many
theorists;some of this definitions are quoted
here
 Communication is process of passing
information and understanding from one
person to another.

 Downward communication is basically a
‘FORMAL’ communication.
 Formal channel are those which carry the official
messages in the organisation.The efficiency of
an organisation depends on a regular flow of
messages.The flow of messages need to be
organized into a well-ordered network,to ensure
that communication flows easily and reaches the
persons who need the information.

OBJECTIVES OF DOWNWARD COMMUNICATION

Instructions and orders


 Instruction is information about processes and procedures of
tasks to be performed by the subordinate.
* Can be done orally, individually or in groups
*Oral instruction may be supplemented with written and visual
material (User manuals)

Order is the assignment of tasks.


*Authoritative communication
*directive to the employee to do, modify or alter the course of
action
*Order is formal
*It is in the written form, sometimes can be given orally
*Generally means that the matter mentioned in it, is formally and
finally accepted
 Downward communication
 Transmission of information from manager to
subordinate
 Primary purpose of manager-initiated communication
is to convey orders and information
 Managers use this channel for instructions and
performance feedback
 The channel facilitates the flow of information to
those who need it for operational purposes

 A major airlines was making heavy financial loses.Till J.C
the new CEO, took over. Within a year the company was
making profits again.The first thing J.C did was to pepare
a little red book with the title “LET’S GET IN THERE AND
FIGHT”.The book mentioned in simple terms what the
problem was and how it could be solved.The book was
given to all 20,000 employes.Next,J.C began spending
half his working time in talking to employees and
spreading his own enthusiasm.The strategy paid off.The
employees, especially the tickets agents, flight
attendants and other dealing with customers realised
that it was in their own interest to work the way J.C
wanted them to.

the bottom of our heart to our Mam for giving us such a wonderful
oppurtunity to present our self’s on such a different topic i.e
“DOWNWARD COMMUNICATION”.
 We actually got a clear picture about what communication is all
about and how it plays a vital and important role in one’s life,to enhance
his or her personality as well as motivates to move ahead with positive
attitude in life.
 Also I would like to thank my colleagues for implementing their whole
and sole in to this project,without which the project wouldn,t have been
to life.
