Phrase is any grouping of words that does not contain a subject and a verb. A phrase
is a very basic word unit in English.
Example of Phrases:
• Reading a book
• The tall basketball player
Noun Phrase-a noun and any words in the sentence that modify it; words that can
modify nouns include articles (a, an, the); adjectives; participles; and possessive
pronouns
Verb Phrase – is a combination of main verb and its auxiliary (helping verb) in a
sentence.
Examples:
The shot did not scare Biryuk.
Anna and Marie were waiting for the movie.
It has been raining for three consecutive days.
Father will go to Cebu next month.
Dogs are chasing cats.
