2. Why did managers decide they needed an “intelligent system?” In what way was
the new system “intelligent?”
First of all, managers decide that the bank need an intelligent system as things move
fast. Digital transformation and data management are key to any business especially in
banking sector. Through digitalization of the working system, they may reduce their
burden in managing the corporation activity such as the burden caused by large volume
of underperforming and non-performing financial instruments and loans. The bank able
to remain competencies as it gains competitive advantage over other banks in the same

today's data demands by staying ahead of the competition through controlling and
leveraging the power of their data (Societe Generale).
Since Societe Generale has adopted a universal banking model, one stop shop to
fulfil client’s wants and requirement, they need an intelligent system to organize the
data collected from its clients. It engaged in three banking segments including retail
banking for consumers, international banking to service corporate clients, and
investment banking for wealthy clients and other sources of capital like pension funds,
insurance firms, and sovereign off-shore funds. The business flow of the bank goes on
smoothly through the implementation of intelligent system. Clients’ profile was
properly saved and store in a safer place. This give advantages to all the staffs.
Employees of all management level can easily access to the needed quickly and make
correct decision based on their findings. They able to provide excellent services while
making a good investment suggestion based on client’s preference and reduce chance
of error. This will indirectly build up a strong relationship with clients. They can also
gain customer confidence over the financial service provided as well as their loyalty.
Besides, they need an intelligent system in the bank to lighten the works of their
employees while minimize the chances of error. This is because intelligent system helps
to automate the transaction procedure. Business process can be simplified and delivered
in a shorter period. For example, Societe Generale automate the verification process
which was manually handled previously to reduce error in real time. Intelligent system
will also proactively identify the vulnerability and risks to them while prevent them
from facing critical problems and meet key service levels for availability, performance
and utilization. Since banks may have countless activities which need much efforts from
employees to be done accurately from time-to-time, there are possibility of getting
mistakes (North). Thus, they can achieve efficient result in a quick turnover time with
the use of intelligent system.
This case study is related to the Societe Generale which is the France’s largest
bank. The day to day banking business involves various type of risk. Thus, human
decision makers play a crucial role in ensuring that transactions are made in their best
interest. Appropriate flow of information is essential in stage of decision making.
Human decision makers play important roles in verifying the information of the
organization. The data sometimes will record in the wrong ways and the amount of
recorded can change as information flow between and across systems. Thus, they need
to make sure the data is relevant, complete and accurate. This can reduce harmful to
business and the useless information is provided to company.

internet services and coordinates all technology operations.
Furthermore, another role of human decision maker is to solve the critical error
or handle the new situations that the system cannot decide. They need to find out the

current customer demands. They also need to create branch budget and employee goals
based on past achievement. This can aid them in target training and education of
employee for off-peak time and monitor progress of goal in real times.
