1 GENERAL INFORMATION
1.1 The detailed information of the admission procedure will be displayed on the University website.
Candidates are advised to check the University website regularly for updates.
1.2 After declaration of the merit list a copy of the list will be displayed on the University website. The
candidate himself/herself will find his/her merit number from the merit list. The merit list will not be
published in the newspaper.
1.3 All fees deposited at the time of registration will not be refunded under any circumstances.
1.4 As directed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court, action will be taken against the students who indulge in
incidence like ragging during studentship.
1.5 Those candidates who have been expelled from any University/College/Institution or found guilty under
Indian Penal Code are not eligible for admission to any course in the University of Lucknow.
1.6 Candidates claiming benefit of Reservation shall have to produce the Caste certificate which could be
verified through Government website.
1.7 Candidates claiming benefit of Zero Fees shall have to produce the Income certificate which could be
verified through Government website.
1.8 All original certificates have to be produced at the time of interview. Xerox or internet copies and
provisionals will not be considered.
1.9 The final seat matrix would be prepared department wise as per the national/State reservation policy.
1.10 If you want benefit of reservation or zero fees, then give the details of the related certificates during the
filling of the Online application form. No candidate will get the permission for any change in weightage or
reservation after the form is submitted.
1.11 Candidate shall be entitled to weightage (if any) on the merit index.
1.12 The Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes candidates originally belonging
to Uttar Pradesh will be given the benefit of reservation. Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes and Other
Backward Classes candidates of other states will be treated as general.
1.01- 1.13 All admissions are provisional. University reserves the right to cancel any admission at any stage.
1.02- 1.14 In case of any matter relating to the Ph.D. Admissions, the decision of the Vice-Chancellor/Admission
Committee, Lucknow University shall be final and binding.
1.15 After declaration of the merit list a copy of the list will be displayed on the University website. The
candidate himself/herself will find his/her merit number from the merit list. The merit list will not be
published in the newspaper.
1.03- 1.16 Reservation shall be admissible as per U.P. State Government Reservaton policy.
1.04- 1.17 All the legal matters pertaining to the Ph.D. Admissions shall be subject to the Lucknow Jurisdiction only.

1.09- 2.1 1.10- Candidates for admission to the Ph.D programme shall have a Master's degree or a professional degree
declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least
55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a
point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational
Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or
authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other
statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and
standards of educational institutions.

1.11- 2.2 1.12- A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for
those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates
as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master's
degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point
scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above
are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
2.3 A person whose M.Phil. dissertation has been evaluated and the viva voce is pending may be admitted
to the Ph.D. programme in the University of Lucknow
2.4 Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a
Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is
approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home
country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or
assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D.
programme.

3 DURATION OF THE PROGRAM


3.1 Ph.D. programme shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum
of six years from the date of admission.
3.2 Extension beyond the above limits will be governed by the relevant clauses as stipulated in the
Statute/Ordinance of the University of Lucknow.
3.3 The women candidates and Persons with Disability (more than 40% disability) may be allowed a
relaxation of two years for Ph.D. in the maximum duration. In addition, the women candidates may be
provided Maternity Leave/Child Care Leave once in the entire duration of Ph.D. for up to 240 days.

4 PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION


4.1 As per the LU Ph.D. Ordinance 2018 the admission would be done on the basis of entrance test and
interview.
4.2 All candidates who are desirous of taking admission to the Ph.D. programs of the University of Lucknow
have to appear and qualfy the Centralized Entrance Test (CET) conducted for this purpose.
4.3 All candidates who qualify the CET with the minimum prescribed cutoff have to attend the interview.
4.4 Candidates who qualify the CET and appear in the interview will be considered for the final merit.
4.5 Candidates who qualify the CET but do not appear for the interview will not be considered for the final
merit.
4.6 The marks of qualified candidates and non qualified candidates will be displayed only after the
declaration of the final merit list. This is being done to remove the value judgment or bias from the
interview board.

5 CENTRALIZED ENTRANCE TEST (CET)


5.1 A Centralized Entrance Test (CET) for all candidates would be conducted by the University.
5.2 The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be
subject specific.
5.3 The syllabus of the subject specific part will be the same as prescribed for the PG Programs of the
University of Lucknow.

5.4 There would be 90 questions in all. 45 questions would be for research methodology and 45 would be
subject specific.

6 INTERVIEW
6.1 All candidates who qualify the CET with the minimum prescribed cutoff would be called for the interview.
6.2 Candidates have to report for interview at the stipulated date and time which will be declared on the
University website. No individual letter would be issued for this purpose.
6.3 Interview would account for 10 marks in the final merit.

7 MERIT LIST PREPARATION


7.1 The overall merit list would be prepared on basis of marks obtained in the written test and interview. This
list would be displayed on the University’s website as well as on the departmental/ Institute’s Notice
Board.
7.2 The break up of marks are as follows
 Test Marks (TM) 90
 The marks obtained in the interview (IN) 10
7.3 The final index would be calculated out of a maximum of 100 marks and would be prepared as follows
 Final Index = TM + IN
7.4 If two or more candidates have secured equal marks in the merit Index, then the rank for admission will
be determined as follows:-
7.4.1 If the merit Index of candidates are same in such cases first preference will be given to the candidate
who secures higher percentage of marks in PG examination.
7.4.2 If the marks secured in PG are also same, in such cases first preference will be given to the candidate
who secures higher percentage of marks in graduation examination.
7.4.3 If the marks secured in graduation examination are also same, in such cases first preference will be
given to the candidate who secures higher percentage of marks in class 12 or equivalent examination.
7.4.4 If the marks secured in class 12 or equivalent examination are also same, in such cases first preference
will be given to the candidate who secures higher percentage of marks in High School or equivalent
examination.
7.4.5 If the marks obtained at the High School or equivalent examination are also same, then in that case the
older candidate will be given priority.

8 PATTERN OF ENTRANCE TEST


8.1 Paper I Research Methodology
8.1.1 45 Multiple Choice Questions of 1 mark each based on the following topics to be answered in 45
minutes
 General Awareness
 Statistical Data Interpretation
 Mental Aptitude
 Numerical Aptitude
 Logical Reasoning
 Information and Communication Technology
 People and Environment

8.2 Paper II Subject Specific


8.2.1 45 Multiple Choice Questions of 1 mark each to be answered in 45 minutes. The questions will be based
on syllabus of PG Programs of the University of Lucknow.
8.3 General Guidelines
8.3.1 The test will be of 90 marks.
8.3.2 There will be no negative marking.
8.3.3 Candidates will have the option to appear in the test for maximum two subjects if they are eligible in both
of them.
8.3.4 The Ph.D. entrance test will be held in one sitting, 90 minutes for candidates appearing in one subject
and 135 minutes for candidates appearing in two subjects.
8.3.5 Marks obtained in paper I by candidates who appear in two subjects will be added to the marks obtained
in the second.
 Example: Candidate obtains 43 marks in paper I, 37 in first subject (A) and 32 in second subject
(B).
o The marks in Subject A will be 43 + 37 = 80
o The marks in Subject B will be 43 + 32 = 75

9 MULTIPLE SUBJECT OPTION


9.1 Candidates can apply in a maximum of two subjects.
9.2 There will be option to select both the subjects in the same application form. The application fee will be
charges separately for each subject.
9.3 In case they fill the form for one subject and later on decide to apply for another subject they can login
using the credentials provided on their mobile number and email ID and add the second subject on the
same registration number and make the payment.
9.4 Both subjects should be filled through the same registration number for the candidate to appear in both
of them.
9.5 In case the applicant fills two forms with one subject each having different registration numbers, they will
be treated as separate applications and such applicants will be allowed to appear for the test in only one
of them.

REQUIREMENTS FOR FORM SUBMISSION

 Valid Email ID
 Active Mobile Number
o Mobile number should be with the applicant at the time of form filling
o All relevant information regarding admission would be sent to this mobile number.
o This number would also be used at the time of counselling.
 Alternate Mobile Number (Preferably of parent)
 Photo in JPEG format (Maximum upload size is 50 KB only)
 Scanned Signature in jpeg format (Maximum upload size is 50 KB only)
 High School, Intermediate, Graduation and Post Graduation Mark sheet
 Photo ID proof (for entering number)
o Any one of the following for entering the number at the designated place in the
online application form
 Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Driving License, Passport
 Important Dates
o Form Submission Starts November 29, 2018
o Last date for form submission without late fee December 20, 2018
o Last date for form submission with late fee of Rs. 1000.00 December 26, 2018
 Test Centre at Lucknow only
 Application Fee per subject
o General and OBC Rs. 2000.00 (With late fee Rs. 3000.00)
o SC and ST Rs. 1000.00 (With late fee Rs. 2000.00)
 Caste certificate
o The number of caste certificate issued by the competent authority will have to be
entered for availing the benefit of reservation for OBC, SC and ST applicants.
o For OBC applicants this certificate should have been issued after July 1, 2015
and be valid on the day of verification. Validity of this certificate will be verified
from the Government website.
o The scheduled caste, scheduled tribes and other backward class candidates
originally belonging to Uttar Pradesh will be given the benefit of reservation.
Scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward class candidates of other
states will be treated as general.
 Income Certificate
o Applicants will have to enter the number of these certificates at the time of filling
of the form.
o The income certificate will be verified through the Government website.
o Certificates whose details are not available on this website will not be entertained.
o The applicants who do not have a valid income certificate issued by competent
authority will not be given benefit of zero fees at the time of admission.

FORM FILLING GUIDELINES


 During the form filling process the applicant can make the entries and save the
information.
 If the applicant is unable to fill the form in one sitting or somehow the process is
interrupted there is no need to register again. They can login using the credentials sent
on their mobile numbers and continue the process.
 Applicants are advised to check all the data they have entered before submitting the
application fee. If there is some error they can edit these or start the entire process again.
Once they have submitted the application fee the data submitted in the registration page
cannot be edited under any circumstances.
 Candidates will have the option to appear in the test for maximum two subjects if they are
eligible in both of them.

 There will be option to select both the subjects in the same application form. The

 Step 1 Registration
o Applicants have to fill the relevant details in the form provided. These fields
cannot be edited later.
o Applicants will receive their login details in the mobile number and email ID
provided at the time of registration.
 Step 2 Personal Details
o Applicants have to enter their personal details
 Step 3 Educational Qualifications
o Applicants have to fill their educational qualifications.
 Step 4 Upload photo and signature
o Applicants have to upload their photo and scanned signature.
 Step 5 Select Subject
o Applicants have to select the subject in which they would like to seek admission.
o Applicants have to ensure that they are eligible for admission to the selected
subject.
o They can select a maximum of two subjects.

 Step 6 Preview
o Applicants can preview all the entries made at this point. If there is some error
they can edit these or start the entire process again. Once they have submitted
the application fee the data submitted in the registration page cannot be edited
under any circumstances.
 Step 7 Application Fee
o If all the entries in the application form are correct the applicant can submit the
form and proceed for payment of the application fees.
o Form fees can be submitted by any of the following ways
 Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking
 Step 8 Print Application form
o Applicants can print their complete application form and fee receipt to complete
the application process.

 Restricted data can be edited by the candidate by logging into the admission website
using the credentials sent to their email and registered mobile number. In case the
candidate has missed out on the login details they can regenerate their password by
clicking on the forgot password link and entering their registration number. The new
login details will be sent to their registered mobile number. The data submitted in
the registration page and the opted category cannot be edited under any
circumstances.
