CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT 2

Classroom Management

Essential to creating an effective teaching environment is for teachers to understand their

personal beliefs toward managing a classroom. How a teacher manages a classroom will play an

important part in how they teach, set up a classroom, and what expectations the students may

have for a teacher. the goal of this paper is to create my personal classroom management plan

including how I’ll create a positive learning environment, plans and procedures I will have in the

class, how I will involve parents, and some of the rules and their consequences that will exist in

my classroom.

Essential to having a positive learning environment is helping student feel safe

physically, emotionally, and be connected to the classroom community with both teacher and

students. (Kauchak & Eggen, 2017) In order to produce this learning environment, it is my belief

that I as a teacher need to be welcoming to my students each day. I also need to provide

opportunities for students to work and learn together. Students will build strong learning

communities when allowed to work equally together and on their own. I also believe that it is

important I make sure that the classroom my students enter is clean and orderly in order to

provide a prepared learning environment. In order to meet these, I will make sure to clean my

classroom each day before I leave school having the classroom arranged and prepared for the

next class, I will learn each students name quickly and if possible some of their interests to help

show that I care about them as an individual, I will also make sure to have group work

throughout a school year that provides students an opportunity to learn and teach together.

Plans and procedures are important at making classrooms run smoothly and effectively.

When a teacher plans, they can often address needs and problems before they arise. Procedures

can help to make routines that students will learn to follow that help prevent classroom

disruptions. (Kauchak & Eggen, 2017) In my classroom an expected procedure will be when

students enter the classroom I will have a starter ready that will have questions about subjects

that we have already covered that is expected to be done during the beginning of class. After

giving them a few minutes to complete we will review the starter to check for students

understanding. While students do their starter I as the teacher will do most of the non-teaching

parts of a class such as attendance, or announcements.

Effective teachers do not rely solely on themselves to teach students they will enlist the

help of others especially parent’s to encourage learning in a student. Parent’s involvement helps

to reinforce learning by helping students build positive attitudes and behaviors towards school,

increase attendance, and help students complete homework. (Kauchak & Eggen, 2017)To help

involve parents teachers will often send letters of expectations for the students, parents, and

teacher. They will also send reports of how well a student is doing or what they should expect the

student to learn throughout the year. (Kauchak & Eggen, 2017)

It is important that parents be included in the education of their students. In order to

involve parents, I will send an introductory letter each year that goes over expectations for

students in the class, expectations for parents involvement, and what can be expected of me the

teacher. As part of this I will make sure to have at least a monthly update sent out to parents that

describes how each parents child is doing, as well as what we will cover over the coming month.

I will also reach out to parents on occasion to discuss with them the needs of their student and

how we can help meet the child’s needs.

Essential to maintaining a positive classroom environment is establishing rules that help

maintain acceptable behavior among students. (Kauchak & Eggen, 2017) Important to a rule

being successful is the teacher stating rules positively, giving rationales for the rule, and

minimizing the number of rules. It’s also essential that the rules are monitored and reinforced

throughout the year. (Kauchak & Eggen, 2017) Important rules that I will have for my class is

that students listen when someone else is talking, students wait until dismissed by me to leave

class, and that students bring necessary material to class. (Kauchak & Eggen, 2017) Another rule

is that students work when it’s time to work, and they treat themselves and others respectfully.

these rules are important because if students do not treat each other respectfully then the class

environment will not be safe which will discourage students learning. If students do not have the

necessary material’s, then they will be unprepared to learn. Students who are not actively

working on assignments in class or listening to the teacher as they teach will also be in positions

where they are not learning and may be disrupting other students learning.

When rules are broken, or students misbehave in a class it is my responsibility as a

teacher to determine what the consequence to a student’s action is. In determining a consequence

its important that we as teachers are consistent with our follow through, use verbal and nonverbal

Congruent, as well are logical to a student’s action. (Kauchak & Eggen, 2017) Its also important

to provide consequences to a students good behavior as well as bad. For my classroom when

students break the rules, I will give them three warnings to change their behavior. After the third

warning depending on the nature of the rule broken the student’s will receive a consequence

associated with the misbehavior. If a student for example is constantly being disrespectful, I will

speak with them and request them to change their actions if they don’t then I will reach out to

their parents and school administration on working on helping them learn to be more respectful.

If students are not actively paying attention in a class I will call on them to answer questions or

some other aspect of a class in order to try and help them become involved. It is my personal

belief that students deserve multiple chances to fulfill assignments ior quizzes if they desire to

learn. However, if a student is disrespectful constantly late for class, and doesn’t not work with

me on how they can change the behavior I will reserve the ability as teacher to remove the

opportunities that I give to a student to makeup or redo work.

To conclude it is my belief that to effectively produce a positive learning environment it

is my responsibility as teacher to create a clean environment for students to work in. That I need

to provide students to learn both individually and as groups. Parents should play an active role in

a student’s learning and I will help involve them by reaching out and providing them with

information that will help them increase their students participation in class. I will also create

clear precise rules and procedures that encourage students to respect, listen, and help me the

teacher and each other be in a positive learning environment.
