Quick Check of Stowage
 Review Cargo being loaded under deck
 Ensure no cargo loading under deck is to be stowed as 
““on deck only”

 Check if reefers under deck with flammable liquids or 
gases
 Experience will dictate time devoted to this review
Dangerous Cargo Manifest Review
 Compare DCM with Shipping Papers, IMDG and CFR
 Is cargo being shipped under IMDG or 49CFR?
 If shipped under IMDG refer to 49CFR 171.22‐25 for 
additional requirements for shipment within US.
 Annotate or Highlight noted errors on DCM.

 Notify Master or Chief Office of DCM discrepancies
Additional Requirements for IMDG
Additional Requirements for IMDG 
usage in US per 49CFR
 Not Hazardous under IMDG but is under 49CFR then 
item must be transported in accordance with 49CFR.
 Not Hazardous under 49CFR but is under IMDG then

 Emergency Response Information IAW subpart G of

 Also leave copy of Record of Boarding with Chief Off.
 Forward Copy via Fax or Email to next NCB Port if 
there are discrepancies

discrepancy sheet, corrected DCM, and Invoice to 
Shipline.
