If the system still cannot detect the printer, run the Scrubber utility to perform a clean printer driver
uninstallation (located in the Utils\Scrubber folder on the Starter CD). Restart your system, and
re-install the printer driver.
If you do not restart the system, you may not be able to print from the printer and some
applications may not function properly. This is because the printer setup program will upgrade
Microsoft Windows installer to version 2.0 if the system is using an older version. This requires
the system to be restarted.
Unable to print on Windows 2000 and XP clients after installing driver from
Windows NT 4.0
Users will be prompted for the printer driver when they try to print after installing the driver from
Windows NT 4.0 by doing a point-and-print.
This is because Windows 2000 and Windows XP cannot print using the Windows NT 4.0 driver.
To resolve this, administrators need to install the driver for Windows 2000 and Windows XP on
the Windows NT 4.0 server.
Version 0.1
Starter CD and select the driver.
This is a limitation of the operating system. It can support only a limited number of characters in
the full path (including filename) that you specify.
To resolve this, map to the network drive if you have not already done so. Or find out if the files
are available on a network drive that has a shorter path; check with your network administrator.
Windows XP does not trigger Plug and Play when you restart system after
uninstallation
If you uninstall the printer driver with the printer connected to your system and the system does
not detect the printer after restart, try to restart again or run the Device Manager to search for the
printer.
To do so:
1. Double-click Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
2. Click Install, and then click Next.
3. Click Browse and select setup.exe.
4. Select All users begin with common application settings and click Next.
This will run the printer installer.
5. Follow the instructions on screen to complete the driver installation.
6. Return to the Add/Remove Programs dialog and click Next, followed by Finish to complete
installation.
To resolve this, either select an LPT port and then skip the Plug-and-Play installation or select
any port (such as a COM port) from the Other Port drop-down list. After installation, associate the
printer to an LPT or a USB port in the printer properties dialog box.
Unable to install printer driver using Novell NDPS printer manager on some
Windows systems
If you have installed Novell client service pack 3.32sp1 on Windows 9x or 4.83sp1 on Windows
2000 or NT, an error message will appear when you try to install the printer driver using Novell
NDPS printer manager.
To resolve this, install the driver using the Add Printer method.
Novell point-and-print does not work with Windows 9x and Windows 2000
Use the Add Printer Wizard to install the printer driver:
Version 0.1
1. Go to the Printers folder.
2. Double-click the Add Printer icon.
3. In the Add Printer dialog box, select the Network Print Server option.
4. Browse to the appropriate NDS or bindery queue.
For Windows 9x, you can also use the following alternative:
1. Use the HP File Expansion utility on the Starter CD’s \Utils\Expand folder to uncompress the
Windows 9x driver to a temporary location on your hard disk.
2. Use the driver in this temporary location to set up Novell point-and-print.
To enable the Toolbox to monitor status and prevent delays in printing, change the printer IP
address on the Ports tab of the printer properties dialog box.
To be able to print to the server from the client, do one of the following:
Version 0.1
- Install the printer driver on the Windows 9x client using the Add Printer Wizard.
- Do a point-and-print to the Novell server.
- Manually capture a printer port on the Windows 9x client
1 Because older versions of the print monitor software are not replaced with the latest version,
restart the computer to help replace the older version..
2 Make sure that wireless communication was enabled by connecting the printer to the computer
using the cross cable and then setting the wireless settings for the printer through the embedded
Web server (EWS).
3 If the problem persists, note the printer IP address, and then change the IP address on the
Ports tab of the printer properties dialog box.
Printing handouts
If you try printing a document containing pages in portrait as well as landscape orientation, using
the Handout feature, then you may get unexpected results. We recommend that you avoid using
the Handout feature to print such documents.
Printing banners
When printing banners, make sure that only the required number of sheets are loaded in tray 1.
After printing finishes, the Resume light blinks. Press the Resume button on the control panel to
eject the banner paper.
You do not need to press the Resume button during the printing process.
Printing watermarks
If the Tiling feature has been selected as a global default setting then you will not be able to print
a watermark on your documents even if you uncheck (disable) the Tiling feature within the printer
software. This is because the printer software does not allow Watermark to be combined with the
Tiling feature.
Version 0.1
To change the timeout value:
1. Right-click the printer icon and select Properties.
2. In Windows NT 4.0, click the Ports tab and select Configure Port.
In Windows 9x, click the Details tab.
3. Change the Transmission Retry value and click OK.
Microsoft Excel
When printing an entire Excel workbook on both sides of the page, do one of the following:
* Make sure that the two-sided printing option is enabled in the global print properties (available
by clicking Start, pointing to Settings, clicking Printers or Printers and Faxes, right-clicking the
printer icon, and then choosing Properties, Document Defaults, or Printing Preferences).
* Make sure that Print on Both Sides is selected for each worksheet in the workbook.
