Standard PE Pipes
GPS PE Pipes are extruded in two standard materials -
PE80 (MDPE) and Excel® (PE100) in the following colours:
PE80 – This is the term used to denote the polyethylene material which has been widely used for gas, water and
industrial applications for many years. The terms MDPE and HDPE were commonly used to describe this material,
although MDPE PE80, as historically supplied by GPS, has a much higher long term stress crack resistance than
traditional HDPE PE80.
PE100 – This is a term used to denote high performance polyethylene, and PE100 pipes are sold by GPS under the
brand name of Excel. PE100 is a higher performance material than PE80 and demonstrates exceptional resistance
to rapid crack propagation as well as to long-term stress cracking. Moreover, the higher strength of PE100 permits
thinner pipe walls than PE80 for the same operating pressure. PE100 uses less polymer and provides for a larger
bore and increased flow capacity for a given nominal pipe size. This can result in significant cost savings at certain
sizes and pressure ratings.
PE80 and Excel(PE100) are not recommended for continuous pressure operation at temperatures above 60°C for
liquids, including sewerage and industrial effluents, or 30°C for gaseous fluids. Excel (PE100) has advantages
over PE80 at low temperatures, since it is extremely crack resistant down to -30°C. When considering applications
which exceed the limits stated above, please contact our Technical Support Department for further information.
GPS can usually offer SDRs other than those shown in the table, e.g. for close fit lining applications. | UK gas operating pressures have historically been limited to 7bar for PE100 pipe – this is the
result of the UK rating system for charges on pipelines at higher pressure. | In line with UK water industry recommendations, GPS de-rate large mitred bends by 0.8 x the rating of the pipe from
which it was made – please contact our Technical Support department for further information. | PE80 (MDPE) gas pipe pressures must be further de-rated for temperatures below 0ºC.
The values in the above table do not address any other safety-related issues associated with pipeline design.
*SDR9 only. Wall thickness increased to give a lower SDR and more resistance to damage.
GPS pipes, manufactured to BS EN 12201-2 standard, are capable of withstanding transient surge pressures of up to twice the rated pressure of the pipe.

Fast, reliable and secure connections for contaminated land has been protecting drinking water supply in
contaminated land for over 15 years. The latest addition to the range, Protecta-Line Mechanical Fittings, offers the
same trusted reliability without the need for pipe end trusted reliability without the need for pipe end.
For drinking water distribution in contaminated land and sites with potential future contamination, Protecta-Line
Mechanical Fittings create reliable connections with a quick and simple mechanical action. Just push pipe ends
over an insert liner, slide a stainless steel shell over the pipe ends and tighten with a torque wrench. No pipe end
preparation and specialist tooling is required. So, for situations where barrier pipes cannot be joined by butt-fusion or
electrofusion, jointing just got a whole lot easier!
Philmac Metric/Imperial™ is the truly universal polyethylene pipe fitting. The culmination of years of exhaustive research
and development, utilisation of cutting-edge manufacturing technology and stringent testing, this new range of premium
products could well be the biggest breakthrough in water transfer technology where both metric and imperial pipes are in
use. Its universal application means this is the only fitting you need carry, reducing costs and streamlining inventory.
Designed to make the job at hand so much easier, the Philmac Metric/Imperial™ plastic compression fitting is the product
of Philmac’s unrelenting commitment to continuous improvement and a culture based on innovation and ingenuity.
Flexibility
The Metric & Imperial connection: The Philmac Metric/Imperial™ compression fitting is a revolutionary step forward for
PE pipe jointing. Connections can now be made to both Metric (BS6572/BS6730) and Imperial PE pipe (BS1972/3284 and
IRS 135 Heavy Gauge) from the one fitting from either end. And, the innovative design means that inserts are no longer
required to connect imperial pipe. Removing the need for dedicated fittings and inserts, Metric/Imperial™ provides the
ultimate in flexibility, reducing both inventory and complexity.
Complete security
Dynamic sealing method: The mechanical advantage of the nut thread compresses the seal into position, eliminating
resistance when inserting the pipe into the fitting so there is no risk of seal distortion or displacement.
No loose components: If the nut is removed there is no danger of losing components, as the collet and seal ring are
retained in the body of the fitting. Losing components in the trench becomes a thing of the past.
Designed to minimise pipe twist: The fitting has been designed to minimise pipe twist as the nut is tightened.
Maximum pipe twist is approximately a quarter turn compared to one and a half turns with many other fittings. Pipe twist
can impact on not only the connection you have just made but also on the connection at the other end of the line.
Approvals: Philmac fittings are WRAS approved for above and below ground use.
High performance
Made from advanced thermoplastic materials: Metric/Imperial™ is manufactured from lightweight high performance
thermoplastic materials with outstanding impact, UV, chemical and corrosion resistance. The material is nontoxic and
taint-free.
Rated to 1600 kpa: Metric/Imperial™ is pressure rated to 1600 kpa (PN16) to meet the needs of high pressure systems.
50 year+ design life: Built to withstand the toughest conditions to ensure longevity and durability, Metric/Imperial™ has
a 50 year+ design life.
Complete coverage
Wide range: The new Philmac Metric/ Imperial™ range is comprehensive: straight and reducing joiners, tees, elbows, end
connectors and caps ranging from 20mm to 63mm. Also available are copper connection kits, normal gauge (IRS 134)
connection kits, reducing kits and blanking plugs, ball valves, stopcocks, wall plate elbows and tank connectors.
Copper connection Kits: Philmac’s all new carborundum gripper design has been introduced into the Metric/Imperial™
copper connection kit. With no steel components in the gripping mechanism, there is absolutely no risk of electrolysis.
Applications
Repair work
UTC® is used extensively by water companies, plumbers and civil contractors for repair work. The UTC® x UTC®
fitting was originally developed as a copper to copper repair joint at the request of a global water company.
New installations
Connecting polyethylene pipe to water meter risers and polyethylene pipe to copper.
UTC® fittings are used by water companies as a connection between polyethylene pipe and metal pipes.
Upgrades
UTC® is particularly useful in service line upgrades. A small number of PE x UTC® fitting provide a complete
solution and will connect to whatever pipe the installer finds at the property boundary.

APPLICATION:
The SST is in fact a reinforced double band clamp with a
flanged outlet. The standard working range is 20mm.
Tapping clamps
Romacon stainless steel tapping clamps are used
to make permanent (hot) taps on different pipe
types for water, gas and petrochemical fluids.
APPLICATION:
Romacon repair clamps can be equipped with a
threaded outlet up to 4”.
APPLICATION:
The Romacon stainless steel drilling saddle can be
supplied with special branch pipes (among others, POLVA
and branch pipes with male and female threading).

Synoflex
The Hawle-Synoflex socket system provides high
quality restraint connections to all common water
supply pipes. The patented Hawle-Synoflex secures
steel, DCI, PE/PVC and AC* pipes with fully corrosion
protected connections.
Drilling Saddles
• Stainless steel rubber insulated strap.
• Solid epoxy powder coated body.
• Favourable angle of contact.
• Flexible wrap around straps for easy installation.
• The saddle seal is moulded to fit the pipe
diameter and is prefixed in the saddle body.
Vario
The Hawle-Vario is a flanged pipe connection
with flexible and telescope length adjustments.
Dislocated pipes that are misaligned by up to 10°
can be connected due to the flexibility provided by
the integrated ball and socket join.
Flange Adaptors
These System 2000 Flange Adapters, use of lip seals
enables the pipe to be pushed in with minimal force.
The flange to flange seal is incorporated onto the flange.
