    Partial Sums Algorithm for Multi-digit Numbers (aka Combining Same Units Invented
    Algorithm)

    Summary of Lesson Presentation:


    We are going to take problem #1 and walk through how to solve it step by step with the class. We will
    write it out on the board using the strategy shown below. We will then ask a series of questions to make
    sure they have a good understanding of the strategy and how we got the numbers that we did. Then we
    will ask each table to solve one of the problems below and write their solution on the board using this
    method. They will then be asked to share with the class on how they solved the problem. Two of the
    groups will be asked to show their direct modeling skills with their strategy using base-10 materials.
    Conclude with the take home handout for more practice at home.
