Common Core Standards:

W.4.3. Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective
technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.

W.4.4. Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are
appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

W.4.5. With guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as
needed by planning, revising, and editing.

Day 1: Begin the lesson by asking what students know about Angry Birds, the app. Make a list
for students to visualize. Then begin making a list of verbs that are used to describe birds. Really
try to get students to come up with big and bold verbs. Then, as a class, create a list of
adjectives that describe birds. Again, try to get students to come up with a big and bold list.
Introduce the pictures that are available for students to color. Explain to them that they will be
writing a story about that angry bird. Encourage them to use verbs and adjectives that we listed
on the board. Students should underline their verbs. Also encourage them to be creative. It is
meant to be fun, yet educational.

Day 2: Today will be an editing day and a rewriting day. Pair students up to edit each others
writing. Use the editing process sheet as a guideline. Make sure students are checking for
spelling, punctuation, and that all verbs are underlined. After editing is finished, students may
begin to write their final draft. This should be neatly written with all editing marks fixed. Once
they are finished, students may pick their angry bird and color it as they choose. The story and
the bird can be taped together and you will have a final project.

*Extra days may be needed due to class time. Parts of the project may also be assigned for
homework. You may also choose for students to share their pieces.
Assessment: Look to see that students are using verbs in the correct way. Also look to see that
all verbs are underlined.
