THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG (MODERN VERSION)

NARRATOR: Two years ago, when wishes often came true, there lived a King that
reigned on a small island, whose daughter was so beautiful that the sun himself, who has
seen everything, was bemused every time he shone over her because of her beauty. The
king was a man with a gentle heart, who in an attempt of making his daughter appreciate
that life is beautiful for what you the love you give without expecting something back,
and not for the riches you have, sent his daughter to live with a normal family in the
woods of a small village called Greenheart when she was only two years old.

And in this village a lot of magical things used to happen: dwarfs were real, fairies too,
and even with all of the different kinds of creatures, they had managed their lifestyles in
order to live peacefully.

The princess, had forgotten that she was once a princess thanks to a warlock who erased
her memories, and now she was totally oblivious that one day she would become a
pageant queen.

The evening everything started, Amelia was in the garden laying on the grass, thinking
about everything that happened during the day in school, when all of the sudden she felt
like something was watching her:

AMELIA: Hello? Is anyone there? [Rising from the ground]... You can show yourself, Im not
going to hurt you.

FROG: Im sorry my princess, my intention wasnt to scare you.

AMELIA: Im not a princess; I think youre confusing me with someone else, my name is
Amelia. Can you tell me your name?
FROG: I dont have a name, and if I do have one, I mustve forgotten it.

AMELIA: Well thats ridiculous! How come someone forgot their own name?!

FROG: There are tons of things that you dont know, my princess. But I must be going now; the
time for visits has ended. I hope I live to see your beautiful eyes again tomorrow, and I hope
youll be here to keep lighting my days.

AMELIA: [rolling her eyes] I told you already, I am not a

NARRATOR: Before the princess could even finish her sentence the stranger
disappeared from the garden, leaving nothing but intrigue on Amelias thoughts.
At the next day, the curiosity had grown inside the princess mind, to the point she talk to
her parents and her best friend (Caroline) about the matter:

AMELIA: Im not lying! There was someone in the backyard with me, and he started calling me
by princess, but I told him that I wasnt a princess, and he left.

MOTHER: My darling, youre not making any sense Do you at least remember how this
stranger looked like?

AMELIA: I dont know, it all happened real fast, but it wasnt something youd like to see in the
mornings. He looked like if his beauty was taken away from him, leaving only the ugly pieces of
his soul visible.

FATHER: Im not sure if I like this whole talking to strangers who call you princess in the
backyard thing. If that guy dares to come to our house again, be sure you holler our names, and
we will attend.

CAROLINE: Youve got to listen to your parents; youre not making any sense! And besides,
what if that guy tries to hurt you? You need to be more careful when youre out there; we live in
the woods, for Petes sake! You already know about the dangers, we dont need to warn you
again Amelia.

AMELIA: Fine, Ill listen to you guys, I wont talk to him again.

CAROLINE: Amelia, please promise me that you wont try anything stupid.

MOTHER: Please Amelia.

AMELIA: I promise I wont do anything stupid.

NARRATOR: That was the first lie Amelia had told in her entire life, she didnt had to
think it twice, it just came out of her mouth, like if someone was controlling her, but by some
reason, she felt great about it.
FATHER: I know you dont see it, but were trying to help you, the world is a dangerous place.

CAROLINE: Come on, were running late for class.

AMELIA: You know what? You go, I need to finish my project, and we still have 30 minutes,
Ill meet you there.

NARRATOR: Amelia had no intention of going to the school that day, on the contrary,
she wanted to know more about that stranger in her backyard, so she waited for her parents to go
to pretend she was walking to school, but as soon as they started driving she went back to the
house, sat in the backyard and started to call the unknown.

AMELIA: Hello? Are you there? Please, come back, I want to talk to you. Frogface? Are you
there?

FROG: Why are you calling me like that? Why didnt you call me Prince?

AMELIA: Because you dont look like one.

FROG: Well, I used to be one. Until

AMELIA: Until what?

FROG: The witch, she did this to me. I remember that I used to be beautiful, rich powerful. I
was on my way to be crowned, but that bloody evil thing casted a spell on me, and now Im
damned. Thats why I need you.

AMELIA: What kind of spell? What happened to you?

NARRATOR: Amelia hadnt noticed about it, but there was someone else with them; the
personification of evil in those woods it was Scathach, the one who bewitched Frogface; she
was indeed, the responsible of his disgrace.

FROG: My princess. I mean Amelia, I will tell you all about it, or at least what I can remember,
but first, Could you please give me some water?

AMELIA: Of course, you can come inside if you want to.

FROG: Dont worry for me, Ill wait here.

NARRATOR: As soon as Amelia entered the house, the witch and Frogface started to
argue.

FROG: What are you doing here?! You should be with those demons you call friends, leave me
alone!
WITCH: Well-well-well, were finally expressing our feelings. You know, my spell had some
particularities, but somehow Ah screw it, who was the witch that helped you? We both know
that not every human is able to see you. And that thing in there is not a member of royalty,
royalty my butt. I will kill your helper, and save you for last.

FROG: My beloved ScathachDo you still miss my father?

NARRATOR: Years ago, the father of Frogface was supposed to marry Scathach, but
instead he found himself another woman, a wealthier one, in order to make alliances and
protect the kingdom. Everyone was happy for the King and his new wife, everyone but
Scathach. When she found out the reasons why the king found himself another wife, she joined a
dark cult and casted a spell on him; His son would be the ugliest thing that has ever existed on
earth, looking like a frog, and only the people with royalty running through their blood were able
to see him and help him, but as expected, no one wanted to be any close to the monster.

At the age of 15, the king himself sent him on a journey in the woods, hoping he would
find a cure for his ugliness and return afterwards, but it was almost impossible Until he saw
Amelia and realized she was a princess, she was his only hope.

AMELIA: Heres your water frogfa Who in the seven hells is she?

WITCH: Im your cause of death honey, so I suggest you to start running [bitchie voice and
manners].

AMELIA: Im not going anywhere until you tell me who you are!

FATHER: Amelia? What on earth are you doing here? You should be at school!

AMELIA: Dad? What are you doing here?

FATHER: I forgot my phone, [Says showing his phone] and you?

AMELIA: Dad, hes Frogface, I told you he was real.

FATHER: What? What kind of herbs have you been planting?

AMELIA: How come that you dont see him?! Hes next to that woman!

FATHER: You are a little too old to be having imaginary friends, youre coming with me, were
going to your psychologist. Now!

AMELIA: IM NOT GOING ANYWHERE!

FATHER: Yes you will. [Starts grabbing her by her arm]

AMELIA: FROGFACE! HELP ME!

[Frogface started to walk towards Amelia]

AMELIA: FROGFACE HURRY!

WITCH: Ooooh, This is getting interesting. I better get some popcorn [sarcastic tone], but first,
FREEZE!

AMELIA: FROGFACE!

[Amelia starts struggling with her father until she releases herself and starts running
towards Frogface and kiss him in the cheek and Frogface turns into a charming prince]

NARRATOR: The spell had broken, the witch couldnt hurt them anymore, but there
were other situations to face.

FATHER: WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT? WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?

ROGER: Well, you just heard it. I used to be Frogface, but my actual name is Roger Im the
Prince Roger. Thank you Princess, you saved me, the only way I could

AMELIA: I remember everything. Im a Princess. Im the Princess Amelia! Im Alive! I need to

ROGER: My princess, for you, anything

NARRATOR: Two months later the princess Amelia and the Prince Roger got married
and had two beautiful babies, and now theyre waiting to inherit the throne. Of course they didnt
forgot about everything they learned in the woods, they live their days helping those who need it,
and loving everyone no matter what.

As always, the impossible its just a kiss away from reality.
