Health includes physical, mental and social aspects.
Damage to the nervous system
It can be produced by:
Accidents. Traffic, diving or sports accidents can cause brain
injuries (damage in the brain activity) and spinal cord injuries
(body paralysis).
Diseases. The most common are Alzheimers disease (loss of
memory) and Parkinsons disease (lack of muscle control)
Alcohol. It affects the brain. It is very dangerous especially in young
people. Alcohol can cause alcoholism. It is a chronic illness that
damages the nervous system.
Injuries to the locomotor system
Bone fractures. When bones break or crack, it heals with a plaster
cast or by means of surgery using nails, screws or plates.
Sprains. Twistling can damage ligaments in ankles, knees and wrists.
Muscle strains. An excessive effort or bad posture can cause a
prolonged muscle contraction.

Physical activity
Physical activity includes playing sports, walking the dog, dancing or
using the stairs. It develops elasticity and strengthens muscles and bones.
It is important to warm up before and after playing sports.
Good posture
Bad posture can deform your spinal column and cause pain. You must:
- sleep on your side
- sit down to get dressed
- carry the schoolbag on both shoulders
- pick up things with your knees bent and your back straight
- sit up straight
Healthy diet
Bones need calcium to be hard and vitamin D to absorb the calcium. We
must eat milk and dairy products, oily fish (sardines, salmon) and green
vegetables.
Sunlight is also important for obtaining vitamin D.
Sleep and leisure
Sleep allows our body to rest, our brain to store information and
improves our memory.
Leisure is also essential to relax and to have a healthy and happy life.
