Gannett buys The Record,

North Jersey Media Group
MICHAEL L. DIAMOND @MDIAMONDAPP

The Record in Bergen County, a major North Jersey

media company, was purchased Wednesday by the parent company of the Asbury Park Press and five other
New Jersey newspapers.
The acquisition by Gannett Co. Inc. creates New
Jerseys largest media company with a network of
journalists stretching from Bergen County in the
north to Cumberland County in the south. It is expected to give readers of the newspapers and digital sites
access to more statewide news.
Gannett continues to execute on its local market
growth strategy, Robert Dickey, president and CEO
of Gannett, said. This latest acquisition positions the

Monmouth
County to N.J.:
Show us the
911 money
SUSANNE CERVENKA @SCERVENKA

FREEHOLD - Monmouth County officials have one

demand for New Jersey leaders: Show us the money.
More specifically, fees the state collects from residents for 911 services that Monmouth County which
at one point got $350,000 a year hasnt seen in six
years. Adding insult to injury for local leaders is a push
from state lawmakers to hike that fee by 10 percent.
We want to know where that moneys going. We
know where it should be going. That money should be
coming back to the entities that are providing that service, Monmouth County Freeholder Director Tom
Arnone said during a Wednesday afternoon press conference. We need to be loud, outspoken and request
our money and more importantly demand our money.
Everyone pays a monthly 90-cent surcharge for each
phone line on phone bills. New Jerseys 2017 budget estimates it will collect $124.3 million in fees, formally
called the 911 System and Emergency Response Fee.
The state budget shows some of the money is spent
on state costs for 911 services. But those costs total

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton waves to supporters after speaking outside the former Trump Plaza during
a campaign stop in Atlantic City on Wednesday.

ATLANTIC CITY - Standing before the remnants

of the now-shuttered Trump Plaza casino, Hillary
Clinton tore through Donald Trumps shameful
business record Wednesday, urging voters not to support a candidate who would do for the country what
he did in Atlantic City.
His bad decisions hurt the whole city, Clinton
said before a crowd of 500 people, referring to
Trumps multiple bankruptcies and trail of stiffed
workers while operating three casinos here. Its not
about what he can build, its about how much he can
take.
In a 30-minute speech, Clinton repeatedly hit hard
against Trumps casino practices and said he had a
penchant to look out for himself at the expense of others including workers and small-business owners
who built Trumps casino empire but were never
paid.
The people he is trying to convince to vote for him

now are the same people hes been exploiting for

years: Working people, small-business people trying
to support their families, she said, citing a cabinetmaker and a music store owner who were never paid
for their work. This is personal for me, said Clinton,
whose father was a small-business owner.
Clinton made no mention of the FBIs decision
Tuesday not to pursue charges over her controversial
email practices while serving as secretary of state in
the Obama administration. FBI Director James Comey said she was extremely careless in handling
classified information on a private email and personal internet server, but that the conduct did not justify criminal charges.
Instead, Clinton focused her attention on poking
holes in Trumps reputation as a jobs-creating business mogul a calling card the presumptive GOP
presidential nominee has touted on the campaign
trail and in his reality television show.

gets a no from
Planning Board

LAKEWOOD - The Planning Board has denied a

change-of-use request that would have allowed a local
yeshiva to continue operating a school with a dormitory
in a single-family home on Gudz Road.
Last month the township closed down Mesivta Meor
Hatorah after its neighbors complained about the unsightly condition of the property, citing an unmaintained
in-ground swimming pool filled with debris, unmowed
grass and a double-wide trailer parked on the front lawn.
Located on the edge of a newer subdivision of attractive homes in the northwest section of town, the school
operated in the predominantly Orthodox neighborhood
for some time without obtaining the necessary approvals from the township.
At Tuesdays Planning Board meeting, the schools
troubles deepened when the board voted 4 to 3 to deny its
