CS XL-Builder Function
The CS XL-builder function is contained in the XL engineering function this manual
describes. The builder function permits to create, compile, and load XL-station source
files at the ICS of the CS system. It calls the tag-list conversion tool when a tag list is
loaded on the ICS, automatically converting the tag list for the EOPS to that for the ICS.

The CS XL-builder builds the XL system in the CS system using source files. The
EOPS tag list is converted to an ICS tag list automatically by the tag-list generation
utility function of the XL builder. To load the tag list in the EOPS automatically,
however, it is necessary to install an optional package (EP370) at the EOPS.

Printer type
The data held by the engineering function are printed at all times and
EOPS data are not printed. Therefore printer specification is not
applicable.
This command cancels any new output request and does not cancel the
output of data already spooled the CANCEL command must be used
to cancel their output.
Fat bitmaps are used.
Calling up Self-document
If any part of a primitive lies on the outer frame, the primitive cannot be
printed. In some cases a printer can not identify the deleted image. For
this reason, the original image is printed as well.
Operators can operate engineering functions on the EWS which stores
and controls engineering files (on a remote EWS, these functions
cannot be performed).
Remote printers connected to other EWS can be used for output (a Selfdocument cannot be output to a printer connected to the ICS or PICS).
Prints single-byte yen symbols after converting them into backslashes.
Set the following call-up conditions on the Self-document (top level)

Description
The engineering function cannot be used in a multi-user, multihost environment.
This function, when used with a builder window, displays all the
visible elements again. This is also true in the case of an
automatic redisplay applied when elements hidden by another
window show up or in the case of a redisplay applied when a
window is moved.
Some operations, such as clicking the Maximize button, may
cause garbage to appear on the panel. Garbage for menu
selection or data entry may also appear when pictures are
redrawn. An invalid indication of selection may occur with the
red borders of a menu.
Continued use of a builder window will result in a decreased
amount of available memory. Close the window as often as
possible.
For more information, refer to Appendix 4-1 Precautions on
Operation.
In a builder where the entry field is provided at the lower part of
the screen, cursor control keys cannot be used. As the cursor is
displayed at the end of a character string, move the cursor
forward with the backspace key.
For the Japanese-language input mode, an NLIO entry window
opens below the builder window. To confirm the entry, press
the down arrow key ( ) instead of the return key.
When a window is moved with the cross-hair cursor displayed
on the screen, a trace of the cursor may sometimes remain on the
screen.
There is no definite position where a test-function window
appears.
The size of Japanese contained in the Detailed Specification
Description Column does not fit the column width. Even if the
window size is changed, the size of characters contained in the
loop pattern does not match the pattern size.
There is no definite position where a test-function window
appears.
Character size has been reduced.
Character size has been reduced.
Only output elements cannot be moved, when the selectable area
of these output elements is quite limited, or characters such as a
comment overlap the selectable area.
Do not edit or refer to an indenical source file in any methods
including the multi-user method (e.g. in activating multiple
builder screens).
A tool for registering options is not supported. When using the
sequence a logic function, the set up the appropriate
environment using the procedure shown in Appendix 5.
The results of a tag-list conversion or modification that is carried
out when tag-lists are loaded to a BCV or ICS are not shown on
the panel. They are stored in the syslog file only. The data of a
loading panel are not updated while a tag-list convestion or
modification is in progress.
If this builder is initiated in a language environment other than
japanese.euc, C, the job selection dialog box malfunctions.

name differs depending on the type of builder.
During loading, do not use any of the following operations:
Generation, saving and on/off scanning relating to the station
being loaded, or concurrent loading to the station currently being
loaded.
Since an EWS lacks proper fonts, the size of a character on an
EOPS screen differs from that on a builder panel.
One file is shared by three builders. Therefore, the file cannot
be editted when calling up the three builders of trend pen
assignment, overview panel assignment, and control group
assignment at the same time.
Self-documentation function
If you print the report form for a large-scale job continuously, the
self-documentation function will output data alternating between
this job and another on a form-by-form basis. When printing
such a job, make sure the first cycle of printing is complete before
you proceed to the next cycle.

Precautions on Operation
This section describes precautions on the operations described in Appendeix 4
Restrictions on Use.
If you perform too many operations in one builder, the builder may end abnormally due
to memory shortage. The operational amount depends on memory capacity installed in a
machine. When using a machine with more than 80 Mbytes of memory, close the
builder window in the following cases 1 to 6. With less than 80 Mbytes of memory,
minimize operations of each builder, and carry out the following builder operations for
efficient use of memory. If it takes more time than usual when updating display, the
machine may be short of memory. In this case, close the window once then call it up
again.
Memory shortage is caused by entering many character strings, displaying many
characters and turning many pages. On a screen where many data can be defined,
reduce the number of turning pages as much as possible. If you continue builder
operations without closing windows which are called up, memory used increases.
However, when redisplaying a window with a window redisplay command, memory
used does not increase.
For efficient use of memory, follow the instructions bellow:
1. Graphic builder
After correcting one page, close the window (and return to the file list screen).
2. Common pattern definition builder
After correcting 96 patterns, close the window.
3. FCS builder
FCS common item, I/O card, and resource control element:
No restrictions when used normally.
Sequential instrument and feedback instrument:
Assume that the max. number of instruments is defined in a new sheet and each instrument specification is displayed in one page.
When performing the above operations up to 15 pages while turning pages, close the
window.
When performing many operations per page, close the window after completing 2 to 3
pages.
(It is no use to return to the file list screen.)
Valve output monitor, timer/counter/code I/O, internal switch, contact I/O, and
sequential message printout:
Close the window after changing 5 pages of elements.
IM 33G4Q10-11E

Printout of message with data; operator guide message:
Close the window after changing 20 pages of data.
Annunciator message (EFCS, etc.):
Close the window after changing 5 pages of data.
Sequential logic chart:
Assuming that the operation of defining 16 input elements and 16 output elements in a
new sheet is counted as one page, close the window after changing 30 pages of data (It
is no use to simply return to the file list screen.).
4. EOPS Builder

TIP
The following explains how to configure a remote printer under the Japanese-version
operating system.
The names of files listing the printer models that can be selected for use with the XLbuilder functions are LIPS3 and lbpb406s. The following explains how to configure the
local printer. The configuration procedure varies depending on whether the EWS'
operating system is HP-UX9.xx or HP-UX10.20 or later version, and also on whether
the name of a file listing printer models is LIPS3 or lbpb406s.
When the EWS' Operating System Is HP-UX9.xx:
No extra work is involved if you select lbpb406s as the name of the printer model
file. If you selected LIPS3 however, follow the procedure given below:
(1) Log on with the account "builder" to open the hpterm directory.
(2) Make sure you are currently at the home directory.
Type:
$ cd
and press the return key. This will move you to the home directory.
(3) Type the following command to open a new file. (A triangle () in keyed-in
statements of commands, etc. indicates a space hereinafter.)
$ vi.lpr_option
After this, type the following to configure the file so that it contains a statement in
the first line only.
lp-ojapanese.euc
(4) Save the file and quit the vi command.
(5) Terminate the engineering function once and then restart it.
The printer named LIPS3 should print correctly now.
When the EWS' Operating System Is HP-UX10.20 or later version:
No extra work is involved.
