The Atchison County

Commission met November 5, 2015, at the Atchison
County Courthouse in Rock
Port, Missouri.
Present were: Curt Livengood, Presiding Commissioner; David P. Chapin,
North District Commissioner; Richard Burke, South
District Commissioner; and
Susette Taylor, Clerk of the
Commission.
Minutes of the previous
meeting were read and approved. Bills were reviewed,
approved and ordered paid.
Clerk Taylor updated the
commissioners on a voting
equipment demonstration
that was presented Wednesday, November 4. Unisyn
Voting Solutions is provided
through the countys current
voting equipment vendor
and is one of newest optical
scan and handicap accessible systems on the market
today. The countys current
equipment is outdated and
no longer supported. Clerk
Taylor will review equip-

ment provided by other vendors before requesting bids.

The commissioners continued to review the Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System
(LAGERS)
supplemental
actuarial valuation studies
that outline the rate adjustments for potential changes
from an L-1 level to either
an L-3 or an L-7. Clerk Taylor presented financial data
on both plans and budget
overviews.
Clerk Taylor presented
four different GAP options
for the commissioners to
review. The GAP insurance
plan can help with paying
out-of-pocket costs related
to inpatient or outpatient
hospital benefits. The comissioners voted to offer the
employees the option to purchase the 2,000/1,000 GAP
plan with 100% of the premium paid by the employee on
a voluntary basis. A total of
25% of the countys full-time
employees must participate
for the option to apply.

Results of the 2015 variety

demonstrations conducted
at the University of Missouri
Graves-Chapple Research
Center located near Corning, Missouri, are now available. Like most farmers in
the area, too much rain this
spring delayed planting of
the plots as well as application of herbicides to control
weeds. However, yields were
still quite good.
There were 58 corn varieties entered this year with
yields ranging from 242.9 to
172.3 bushels per acre. The
average for all the entries
was 201.1 bushels per acre.
Soybean planting was
very delayed this year due
to the weather with the plot
not planted until June 2.
Yields for the 33 varieties
entered ranged from 66.1 to
43.7 bushels per acre with
an average of 53.2 bushels
per acre.
Full results of both demonstrations can be found online at http://graveschapple.
cafnr.org/ or http://exten-

sion.missouri.edu/atchison.
