2. Main menu > Preprocessor > Add/Edit/ Delete. This brings the Element Type window. In that click
Add button > Solid > Quad 8 node 82 element (PLANE 82). Again in that element type window,
select Plane strain option for the element behavior K3.
3. Main menu > Preprocessor > Materials Models >Elastic >Isotropic> Enter the value of Young’s
Modulus (E= 2 e11) and Poisson’s Ratio (v=0.3).
Key points X Y
1 0 0
2 0.01 0
3 0.1 0
4 0.1 0.1
5 0 0.1
5. Main menu > Preprocessor > Modeling > Create> Area> Arbitrary > Through KPS.
6. Before meshing create the concentration key point by following the procedure below.
Main menu > Preprocessor > Meshing > Size controls > Concentrate KPs > Create. Select KP2 .
7. Main menu > Preprocessor > Meshing > Mesh tools> Mesh
8. Apply Boundary conditions (Left vertical line Ux=0, Right vertical line Uy=0)
Main menu > Preprocessor > Loads> Apply> Structural> Displacement> on lines
9. Main menu > Preprocessor > Loads> Apply> structural >pressure. (P= -100Mpa)
11. After solving define the crack, by selecting three nodes from the crack tip towards open side. The
first point should be concentration key point.
Main menu > Gen postprocessor >Path operation> Define path> By nodes
12. Main menu >Gen postprocessor >Nodal calcs> stress intensity factor.
