2). INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this method statement is to describe the procedure which shall be followed for Claustra
block works to comply with schedule of finishes, the General, Architectural & Civil Specifications for
the Project and Owner / Engineer requirements.

General Requirements
Before start of the work the following shall be ensured:

Surface Preparation
Clean the surfaces of the area where to start laying blocks and sprinkle with water and removing
of all loose concrete and shall be free from deleterious materials, projecting nails, splits and other
defects.
To check the dimension between the intermediate columns as specified and true with square
corner if any defects found it should be rectified before staring the claustra block work.
Concrete slab surfaces shall be scrabbled & cleaned prior to start the claustra brick work
activities
Prior to laying claustra block work the surfaces shall be wetted thoroughly
Mixing
Mortar for the claustra block work shall be cement sand mortar in the proportion 1:3 to
1:4(White cement and sand).
Only clean potable water shall be used to mix the mortar to the required workability.

Mortar shall be mixed only in quantities for the work immediately in hand and no partly mortar
shall be used.
The mortar will be prepared with the addition of minimum quantity of clean water for workability.

Surveyor shall mark up the exact location of block walls and openings as per approved drawings
Number of courses, joint thickness and intermediate columns shall be considered according to
panel height, in such a way that no cut Claustra blocks will come in the panels.
To ensure that no broken/cracked Claustra blocks shall be installed and if any cracked/broken
blocks found will be removed.
All blocks shall be well soaked and the top of walls left off shall be wetted before start the block
work.
Claustra block shall not be laid more than 6 layers per day.
The vertical joints and horizontal joints shall be uniform in size and true in line.

Horizontal ties shall be fixed alternate for the good bonding between the block and columns.
Mortar for block work shall be cement mortar in the proportions 1 : 3 to 1 : 4 (White Cement to
sand). All materials shall be screened before mixing to remove lumps. Mortar, whether with or
without plasticizer, shall be mixed only in sufficient quantity for the work immediately in hand
and no partly set mortar shall be used and the mortar joints shall be finished properly.
Verticality of block walls must be checked and monitored using plum bob and level bar (spirit
level). The horizontal alignment must be verified using aluminum tube with straight edge.
After installing the claustra block internal and external surfaces shall be cleaned thoroughly.
Water curing shall be done for 7 days as per project specification.
External Painting system shall be followed for the Claustra block. The Painting System Shall Be:

The surfaces shall be free from dust, sand, oil and other contaminants before starting the primer
application.
The sand paper, scrapper, and rubbing stone shall be used to achieve the smooth surface. The
surface should be assessed and treated as per Manufacturers recommendations.
The Claustra block shall be painted by spray machines from both sides in accordance with
manufacturers instructions.

Trained/Experienced & Skilled persons shall be used for this work and the work shall be executed
strictly in accordance with approved Method Statement in a workman-like manner.
All operator / Laborers are safety trained and toolbox shall be conducted for each potential
hazards mentioned in the Risk Assessment.

All workers shall be made aware of the risk involved in carrying out the activity and requirement
of control measures during toolbox talk
The entire works will be carried out as per the guidelines established in the Project Specific HSE Plan
Utmost importance shall be given to safety or personnel and protection of existing above/under
ground services. It will be ensured that the personnel involved are thoroughly aware of the safety
regulations. To achieve the above the following shall also be ensured:

In case of any emergency situation the workmen should follow the emergency response procedure
and must gather in the assembly point. The emergency response procedure should be conveyed to
the work men through the toolbox talk in prior to the carrying out of the activity.
The necessary safety measures will be taken to prevent the accident or injury all the times. This
may include barriers, warning tape, net, signage, watchman, flashing & rotating lights at night.
MSDS shall be made available prior to the start of the job
Heat stress training will be provided during summer season.
Provision of adequate cool drinking water, shades if necessary and salt tablets will be in place.
Plants & equipment will be provided with back up lights and all other applicable safety devices.
