Feb. 19, Wed.-Bowmansville District Sewing Circle will meet at the Bowmansville Mennonite Church in the morning and afternoon. We welcome YOU to come and help quilt or knot comforters. You will be a blessing to others, and you will be blessed! If you can stay for the entire time, please bring your lunch. The project for this month is Hygiene Kits, which will be distributed by MCC, where needed, around the world. The following new items are included in a kit:1 adult toothbrush 1 squeeze tube toothpaste min. 6 oz*, 1 large bar bath soap, 1 good quality fingernail clipper, 1 dark colored hand towel. *MCC is finding that some countries are rejecting shipments of material aid due to the expire date on the toothpaste! Please purchase toothpaste that has an expire date at least a year in advance of the current date of purchase. Kits can be brought to the church and Sewing Circle will see that they are taken to MCC. Feb. 19, Wed.-Youth Bible Study will meet at church at 7 p.m. Feb. 20, Thurs.-Vi Dutcher presents Amish Womens Literacies at 7:30 p.m., at Elizabethtown Colleges Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies. Dutcher, professor of rhetoric and composition at EMU, will discuss the literacy practices of female members of a particular northeastern Ohio Amish community. Feb. 24, Mon.-Blush and Thrill of the Chaste: What we learned from writing our nonfiction books-Come to Mellinger Mennonite Church at 7 p.m. to hear Valerie Weaver-Zercher and Shirley H. Showalter share their experience as Mennonite women writers. This event is free and open to the public. Feb. 25, Tues.-Salim Munayer presents Desert Safaris for Palestinian-Israeli Reconciliation at 7 p.m., at Elizabethtown Colleges Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies. Munayer, founder and director of Musalaha Ministry of Reconciliation in Jerusalem and professor of theology at Bethlehem Bible College, will discuss his life experience and his ministry of peacemaking and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. Feb. 27, Thurs.-Duane Stoltzfus presents Narrating the Harrowing Journey of Four Hutterites during the Great War 7:30 p.m., at Elizabethtown Colleges Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies. Stoltzfus, professor of communication at Goshen College, will present highlights of the story of four Hutterite men who were chained in the dungeon at Alcatraz when they refused to perform military service during World War I. Stoltzfus will also describe the research process that led to his recent book, Pacifists in Chains. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing. Feb. 28, Fri. & Mar. 1, Sat.-Hinkletown Mennonite School middle school presents The Tortoise and the Hare Race Again and The Trial of Goldilocks, two one-act plays.(Fri. @ 5:30 p.m. dinner theater & Sat. @ 2 p.m. & 7 p.m.).These stories imagine what might have happened after the well-known tale, bringing laughs and lessons to children and adults. Mar. 1, Sat.-Everence will host Stewardship University, a ministry partnership between Everence and the local faith community. Courses will explore subjects ranging from retirement preparation and budgeting to health and fitness. (Registration brochures with details were placed in church mailboxes last Sun.) Numerous individuals from our congregation have attended this event in previous years and have found it very worthwhile. Please let Steve McCosby know as soon as possible if you plan to attend. Discounts are available for early registration (by Feb. 10)and group participation (5 or more attendees from our church, registrations sent in together). Several $10 vouchers are also available on a first come-first served basis. Mar. 8, Sat.-The Pennsylvania Relief Sale is hosting a fundraising banquet at 6 p.m. at Yoder's Restaurant, New Holland. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. with the dinner starting at 6 p.m. A free will offering will be received to help cover the costs of the Pa Relief Sale and to benefit MCC. The evening program features the singing group The Horst Brothers. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED! To reserve a seat, contact Jane at 717-656-8530 or Amos at 717-626-4332. April 11, 12 and 13-Ladies retreat at Belleville. More details to follow. -We are updating our scripture reading schedule for this year and are in need of scripture readers to open our Sunday morning worship services with a Call to Worship. Young, old, or somewhere in between, if you could serve and be a blessing in this way, please sign up on the sheet on the table in the narthex. -Mennonite World Conference is still looking for 700 more guestrooms in private homes for the world assembly in Harrisburg in July 2015. Registration can be done on-line at www.mwc-cmm.org - click on the "Pennsylvania 2015" link. Registration for hosts is open through March 2014, so please consider signing up now. It is a wonderful opportunity to host our brothers and sisters from around the world. -Updated Church Photo Directory-We are beginning the process of updating our church photo directory. Please contact Phil Horning or Bethany Horning to arrange a time for a photo to be taken(Sun. after church might be good), or if you have a recent individual or family photo you would like to use, let us know that as well. -MCC has an Administrative Assistant position open at the MCC East Coast office and MRC based in Ephrata. This position is a service worker(volunteer) position. MCC pays for travel to and from assignment, and provides complete living expenses for service workers plus a small monthly stipend. Individuals interested in this position should send a letter of intent and resume to Emily Stednick at eas@mcc.org. -There is a job opportunity for someone interested in cleaning and light personal care for a disabled couple who contacted our church.
