MLB FUTURES ALL-STAR GAME


Seattle Mariners minor league pitcher Taijuan Walker and shortstop Brad Miller have been selected to play for the U.S. squad in the 15th
annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game to be played July 14 at Citi Field in New York City (11 a.m. PT/ESPN2, ESPN2 HD and MLB.com,
MLB Network Radio) as part of All-Star weekend.This is Walkers second consecutive selection on the All-Star Futures roster.
Tacoma Rainiers hitting coach Howard Johnson will be part of the U.S. coaching staff.
The Mariners have had 30 selections to the Futures Game since its first beginning in 1999. Three players on the current 25-man roster
played in the Futures Game in the past: Felix Hernandez (2004), Kendrys Morales (2005) and Michael Saunders (2007). Hernandez
(All-Star: 2009, 2011-12; Futures Game: 2004) is one of 99 players to have competed n both the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and the
Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Major League Baseball, in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau, MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 Major
League Clubs, selected the 25 players currently on each team. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all fullseason Minor Leagues were eligible to participate.
For the first time, fans will determine the final player on both the U.S. and World Team rosters by casting their votes in the All-Star Sunday
Futures Finalists (#FuturesFinalists) ballot, available exclusively on MLB.com/futuresfinalists and the Club sites. Fans may begin voting
immediately and cast their ballots until Sunday, June 30th at 11:59 p.m. (EDT).
The 5 candidates for the U.S. are: OF Tyler Austin (Trenton/NYY; #VoteAustin); OF Nick Castellanos (Toledo/DET; #VoteCastellanos); 3B
Garin Cecchini (Portland/BOS; #VoteCecchini); OF Courtney Hawkins (Winston-Salem/CWS; #VoteHawkins); and OF Brandon Nimmo
(Savannah/NYM; #VoteNimmo). The players vying for the final roster spot on the World Team are: SS Javier Baez (Dayton/CHI; Puerto
Rico; #VoteBaez); 1B Ji-Man Choi (Jackson/SEA; South Korea; #VoteChoi); SS Carlos Correa (Quad Cities/HOU; Puerto Rico;
#VoteCorrea); 3B Renato Nunez (Beloit/OAK; Venezuela; #VoteNunez); and 2B Rougned Odor (Myrtle Beach/TEX; Venezuela;
#VoteOdor).

REHABILITATION ASSIGNMENT: RH Josh Kinney has appeared in 7 games with Tacoma over 2 rehab stints, going 0-0 with a 3.24
ERA (3 ER, 8.1 IP). Prior to his rehab appearance on May 17, Kinney had not appeared in a game since March 6 when he was forced to
leave a game after two-thirds of an inning with pain on his left side. He is currently on the 60-day disabled list with a stress recation in his
third rid on his left side.
TRANSACTIONS: RHP Taijuan Walker made his Triple-A debut vs. Fresno on June 25 at Cheney Stadium. Prior to his promotion to
Tacoma from Double-A Jackson, Walker had the 7th-best ERA in the Southern League (2.46/24 ER, 84.0 IP). The 20-year-old ranked 1st
in the SL in strikeouts (96) and 3rd in opponent batting average (.195, 58x298) and innings pitched (84.0) at the time of his promotion. Also
amongst Southern League starters he ranked first in SO/9IP ratio (10.29). He was ranked by Baseball America as the No. 2 prospect in the
Mariners farm system entering the season, and was listed as the No. 2 right-handed pitching prospect in the minors by MLB.com. Walker is
currently the youngest player in the PCL this season and 2nd-youngest in Triple-A.
OF NOTE: Tacoma owns a 2.5-game lead over Colorado Springs in the PCL Pacific Northern Division. The Rainiers have now owned the
top spot in the division for 26 consecutive games. It marks the longest Tacoma has held that position since holding down first place for 41
consecutive games, June 29-August 13, 2010. OF Carlos Peguero has recorded 12 RBI over his last 7 games and 23 in 15 games since
June 10. During this 15-game stretch, Peguero is batting .351 (20x57) with 12 runs scored, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs, 23 RBI and 10
walks. SS Brad Miller currently has a 21-game hitting streak, batting .379 (33x87) with 22 runs scored, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs
and 26 RBI. Overall Miller has hit safely in 23 of 25 games with Tacoma, batting .350 (35x100) with 25 runs scored, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 5
home runs and 27 RBI. INF Alex Liddi ranks 10th among Tacomas all-time batting leaders with 206 runs scored. LHP James Paxton
recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts on June 22 vs. Fresno. It marked his 9th career start recording at least 10 strikeouts (last: 11, 5/13/13
at New Orleans). The Rainiers lead the league in both runs scored (482) and home runs (92). Tacoma is averaging 6.03 runs per game this
season, and is homering at a clip of once every 30 at-bats. Of those 482 runs the Rainiers have scored, 147 (30.5%) have been accounted
for via homers.
PCL PITCHER OF THE WEEK: LHP James Paxton was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for June 17-23. Paxton
started 2 games for the Rainiers over that period, combining to go 1-0 and striking out 16 batters through 12.0 innings. He limited
Sacramento to 1 unearned run on 4 hits and fanned 5 in a win on the road, June 17. In his next outing, Paxton struck out a season-high 11
batters over 6.0 shutout innings at home against Fresno on June 22. The 24-year-old is 4-5 with a 4.75 ERA (38 ER, 72.0 IP) over 15
starts at Tacoma in his first Triple-A season. He ranks amongst the league pitching leaders in strikeouts (76) and strikeouts and strikeouts
per 9.0 innings pitched (9.50). Paxton is the fourth Rainiers player to receive a weekly league award this season and the third to nab
Pitcher of the Week honors. Right-handers Andrew Carraway (April 22-29) and Jeremy Bonderman (April 29-May 6) and infielder Nick
Franklin (April 22-29) were each recognized by the PCL after producing outstanding weeks earlier this year.

RECAP: The Generals were limited to 6 hits as Jackson was shutout by Tennessee 0-6 on
Wednesday night. Starter Jimmy Gillheeney (5.1,8,6,6,1,2,HR) recorded the loss, allowing 6 runs,
including a 4-run 5th inning, on 8 hits in 5.1 innings. RH Stephen Kohlscheen (1.0,0,0,0,0,2) and
LH Nick Hill (1.2,1,0,0,1,3) combined to strike out 5 batters over the final 2.2 scoreless innings in
relief. LF Leon Landry (2x3) recored the teams only multi-hit game, while DH James Jones (1x4),
1B Ji-Man Choi (1x4), 3B Steven Proscia (1x3) and C David Dowd (1x3) each had 1 of the
Generals 6 hits.
OF NOTE: OF James Jones has hit safely in 6 of his last 7 games, batting .286 (8x28) with 3 runs
scored, 1 double, 2 home runs and 7 RBI. Since being promoted to Jackson, 5 of Ramon Morlas 6
hits have gone for extra-bases (2-2B, 3 HR). Overall he is batting .231 (6x26) with 4 runs scored, 2
doubles, 3 home runs and 8 RBI. LH Kyle Hunter has held oppoents scoreless in 17 of 19 relief
appearances this season. Overall he is 1-0 with 1 save and a 1.14 ERA (3 ER, 23.2 IP). He has
limited opponents to a .216 (19x88), while walking 6 and striking out 13. RH Tyler Burgoon has
allowed only 1 run over his last 11.0 innings in relief (7 G). During this stretch he has limited
opponents to a .132 average (5x38), while walking 5 and striking out 13. He has recorded at least 1
strikeout out in 19 of 20 appearances with Jackson (44 strikeouts overall), including 8 outings with at
least 3 strikeouts.
SOUTHERN LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: OF Julio Morban was named Southern League
Player of the Week. At 21, Morban is one of the younger players in the Southern League. He's also
been one of the best, as he leads the circuit amongst the league leaders in average, slugging
perceanted and average with RISP. After going 0-for-2 with 2 strikeouts at Birmingham on Monday,
Morban went on a tear with 5 extra-base hits and 9 RBI in his next 5 games as the Generals took 3
of 5 from visiting Mobile. This is the first Hitter of the Week selection for a Generals player since
Brad Miller was selected the first week of the season.

RECAP: The Mavericks rallied from a 6-1 deficit in the middle of the 3rd inning to eventually tie the
game with a run in the 9th, but it wasnt enough as High Desert lost to Lake Elsinore 8-9 in 11
innings on Wednesday night. DH Patick Brady (2x6, 2 R, 2 2B), 1B Kevin Rivers (2x4, 2 R, BB)
and C Steven Baron (2x5, 3 RBI) each recorded 2 of the Mavericks 11 hits. 2B Dillon Hazlett (1x4,
R, HR, RBI, BB) hit his 6th home run of the season with a solo blast to lead off the 3rd inning.
Starter Brett Shankin (4.2,11,7,7,0,4,2HR) allowed 7 runs on 11 hits in 4.2 innings, but didnt figure
into the decision. LH Bobby Shore (1.1,1,0,0,1,1) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings, while RH Grady
Wood (1.1,0,0,0,2,1) allowed 2 walks and struck out 1 in his Mavericks debut after being promoted
from Single-A Clinton. RH Matt Brazis (1.2,2,1,1,1,2) allowed a run in the 8th inning, while RH
George Mieses (2.0,2,1,1,1,0) recorded the loss after allowing the winning run to score in the top of
the 11th inning.
OFNOTE: After allowing 9 runs in his first 11.2 innings with the Maverick, Dominic Leone has only
2 earned runs over his last 21.0 innings in relief (0.86 ERA). During this stretch he has limited
opponents to a .174 (12x69) average, while walking 4 and striking out 26. Since May 9, he has
lowered his ERA from 6.23 to 2.91. RH Seon Gi Kim has not allowed a run in his last 8.0 innings (4
G). LH Jeremy Dobbs currently has a 12.1 scoreless innings streak, dating back to May 24 (10 G).
During this stretch he has limited oppoents to a .100 (4x40), while walking 2 and striking out 17.
Overall he is 3-0 with a 1.23 ERA (2 ER, 14.2 IP) with 19 strikeouts in 12 games this season with
High Desert. RH David Colvin has allowed only 2 earned runs over his last 16.0 innings in relief

RECAP: 1B Taylor Ard and DH Dario Pizzano each homered as the LumberKings picked up their 4th consecutive win as Clinton defeated
Wisconsin 6-3 on Wednesday night. Starter Mark Anderson (6.0,8,1,1,0,1,HR) earned his 4th win of the season, after allowing only a solo
home run in the 3rd innings. RH Matt Vedo (0.0,1,2,2,2,0) was charged with 2 runs without recording an out in the 7th inning. He left with a
right knee injury after trying to field a ball on swinging bunt. RH Joichi Ogando (3.0,2,0,0,0,4) struck out 4 batters over the final 3.0 innings
to earn his first career save. RF Gabriel Guerrero (3x4, R, 2B, RBI) led the team with 3 hits, while CF Janelfry Zorilla (2x4, R, 3 RBI), 1B
Taylor Ard (2x4, R, HR, 3 RBI) and 3B Jordy Lara (2x4) each recorded multi-hit games. Ard recorded his 5th home run of the season with
