1 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1.1 Before Setting into Operation
Before installation and setting into operation, the Safety Instructions and the Operating Instructions must be
carefully read and observed. You must definitely comply with the requirements of the uwe company and of the
standards authorities, respectively.

1.2 Setting the Unit into Operation for the First Time
Before the unit is set into operation, the local safety regulations and the Safety Instructions must always be
complied with.

Sources of Danger
Warning!
Ultraviolet radiation from the sun or from UV units can cause damage to the skin or eyes. These biological
effects depend on the type and quantity of radiation and on the skin sensitivity of the individual person. After
excessive exposure, the skin can show signs of sunburn. If ultraviolet irradiation with sunlight or UV units is repeated
too frequently, it can lead to premature aging of the skin and also to an increased risk of skin tumours. The
unprotected eye can become inflamed on its surface and, in certain cases, excessive exposure can damage
the retina. After many repeated exposures to the radiation, cataracts can occur. Persons particularly sensitive
to UV-light or persons taking certain medicaments or using certain cosmetics should be careful.

Therefore, you must definitely observe the following Safety Instructions:

The radiation is very intense. Do not look at the tanning tubes.
While sunbathing, close your eyes, and always use the protective goggles that are supplied.
Remove cosmetics before sunbathing.
Do not use sun tan lotion of any kind.
Before sunbathing, always remove your jewellery.
Do not sunbathe more frequently than once every two days. Do not sunbathe in the natural sun on the same
day.
For recommendations about sunbathing times and sunbathing intervals, please see our time chart which is
enclosed with every unit.
If you are undergoing medical treatment or are taking medication, you must definitely ask your doctor’s
advice before sunbathing.
If persistent swellings, sores, or pigmented moles form on the skin, see your doctor immediately.
The unit must not be used if the timer is faulty or if a filter glass is broken.

1.4 Proper Operation

All units for commercial as well as for private use are intended solely for indoor tanning. Operate the unit only in
places where there is no risk of explosion, and only in dry rooms. The rooms must be well ventilated (adequate
air inflow and outflow). If the unit is operated in a sun studio, extremely strict hygiene must be ensured both on
the unit and in the room. Any type of use not complying with these remarks is improper, and the manufacturer
will not accept liability for any resulting damage or injury - the user alone must bear this risk. Proper operation also
includes compliance with the operating, maintenance and repair conditions specified by the manufacturer.
Maintenance work, repair work and suchlike may only be performed by the uwe company’s customer service
organisation or by persons authorised by uwe. The units may only be used by persons who are familiar with them
and who have been informed about the dangers. The relevant regulations for the prevention of accidents and
the other generally recognised rules relating to safety and occupational medicine must be complied with. If
unauthorsed modifications are made on the units, the manufacturer will not accept liability for any resulting
damage or injury.

1.5 Product Liability

The user’s attention is expressly drawn to the fact that the unit may only be operated in the proper manner. If it
is operated in an improper manner, the user must bear sole responsibility. In such cases, the manufacturer
cannot accept any liability.

1.6 Procedure in an Emergency

Unplug or remove power from the equipment by switching off the main switch or removing the fuses. Take
measures to prevent the equipment being switched on again by unauthorised persons.

1.7 Explanation of Danger Symbols

WARNING
In these Operating Instructions, we have used this symbol to mark all texts which relate to your safety. Please
pass all safety instructions on to other users too.
In these Operating Instructions, we have used this symbol to mark all texts containing instructions that are

2 OPERATION / INFORMATION FOR THE USER OF THE UNIT
2.1 Start of Tanning
Observe the time chart. Do not exceed the sunbathing time recommended for your skin type. You must defi-
nitely avoid sunburn. Depending on your skin type the skin can only obtain a certain degree of tan. This cannot
be deepened by the use of a solarium but it can be maintained. Never sunbathe if you already have sunburn.
When sunbathing, use the protective goggles. Persons who have had operations on their eye lenses must
wear protective goggles. You can stop sunbathing at any time by means of the STOP button (3) on the
operation panel or the red EMERGENCY STOP button on the token box.

2.2 Important Technical Details

Important information! You must read this!

Desired atmosphere (Superfan optional accessory, standard on the Tutti Frutti 54 U·P·P)
Switch the rocker switch (5) on the operating panel inside the unit. Here you can specify how much cooling air
is blown into the interior tanning space. In case there is no Superfan this rocker switch (5) is without function.

Fans
To cool the unit down, the fans continue to run for about 4 minutes after the unit is switched off.

2.3 Interior Tanning-Space

Lie down on the unit.
Do not place any part of your body on the longitudinal bars of the base; otherwise, there is a danger of
crushing.
Pull the canopy down by means of the handle (1), which you can easily reach with your left hand. The sunbathing
distance is determined by the construction type of the unit.

2.4 Cleaning the Acrylic Sheet: Use uwe Cleanser Only!
Always ensure extremely strict hygiene.
After every period of use, the lying surfaces must be disinfected and cleaned.
uwe cleanser and other cleaning materials must not be sprayed into the eyes. Do not spray them into
naked flames.
Do not drink them.
Must not be accessible to children.
Use cleaning materials in accordance with the instructions for use. Allow the reaction time stated by the
manufacturer.
Do not pour or spill liquid over the unit, so that no moisture will penetrate under the covers and into the
electrical equipment.

After every tanning session, clean the acrylic sheets with the uwe Cleanser „Hygienefrische“ or with the „Paletti
Hydrovlies“ tissues. When using the uwe Cleanser „Hygienefrische“, spray it onto the acrylic sheet and let it
react for 30 to 60 seconds. Always dry it off with a clean cloth.

INFORMATION FOR UWE PERSONNEL OR AUTHORISED PERSONS ONLY

3 INSTALLING THE UNIT
The unit must be installed only by personnel of uwe or by authorised persons. To install the unit, at least two
persons are needed. The rooms in which the units are to be installed must be well ventilated (adequate air inflow
and outflow). There is a risk of overheating.

3.1 Installation Site and Delivery Condition

The unit is delivered completely assembled and fixed on a palette by strips and covered by a plastic foil for
protection. The palette is unloaded at site with an hydraulic ramp or a fork-lift truck. Then the tanning unit has to
be dismantled on the palette before it is reassembled at the desired place.

3.2 Installation and Assembly

Dismantling the Canopy (figure 1)
Remove packing foil and take remove the Superfan from the palette. Remove the front cover (18 figure 2) by
grasping it on the two thin sides and then pulling forwards. The Velcro strips come undone. Remove the cover
plate (19) by undoing the screws (20). Lift the canopy at the forward longitudinal bar and take out the headrest
(84). Take off the upper cover (8) by sliding the cover from the rear of the unit towards the middle until the cover
slides out of the rear longitudinal bar. Then take it out of the large cover (53) using its straps. Take off the cover
(9) by removing the caps (10), screws (11) and inserts (12). Disassemble the cover (13) and the cover plate (41)
the same way. Always unscrew the two hexagonal head screws (15) with washers (16) from the two holders (14)
on the rear side of the canopy and put them on one side for later assembly.

Under no circumstances remove the upper pan head screw (17). By means of this screw the canopy hangs
in the lift holders (14).

Check that all connectors in the right hand cavity of the pedestal (30) are undone. Take the canopy off by
pulling the pan head screws (17) over the holders (14).

Do not dissemble the two long grey cables (43) from the canopy but take them off with the canopy.

Dismantling the Base, Pedestal and Lift (figure 2)

Pull the base drawer (21), the canopy drawer (22) and the controls drawer (23) out of the guide rails.

Important! The face tanner has only two drawers

Undo the nuts (24) and washers from the centering pins (49) which secure the base. With an assistant lift the
base and place it on a suitable surface. Be careful with the connecting cable (42).

Remove the 4 hexagonal head bolts (25) and washers (26) from the interior of the pedestal. Keep these parts
in a safe place for later assembly. Remove the two rear trim pieces (27 and 28) which are fixed with strips of
Velcro. Disassemble the side trim panels (31, 33) by removing the screws. On trim panel (32) only slacken the two
screws (88) and remove the other two screws (89) completely. The cover can then be pulled off to the front.

Assembling the Lift and Pedestal (figure 2)

Set up the lift (29) and position the pedestal (30) centrally in front of the lift and flush to it. Now working from the
interior of the pedestal, join the lift (29) and the pedestal (30) by screwing in the four hexagonal head bolts (25)
and washers (26) again. Push the base drawer (21) onto the upper guide rails, the canopy drawer (22) onto the
middle guide rails and the controls drawer (23) onto the lower guide rails.

The Unit with high pressure facial (GB) has only 2 drawers
The drawer with the operating hours counter (34) is the controls drawer. Always slide this controls drawer
onto the lower guide rails. Join the connectors of the high pressure facial unit according to the low pressu-
re unit U·P·P. All connectors are coded.

Pull the mains power cable (58) from the controls drawer outwards over the clamping screw (35) and strain
relief clamp which is on the right front part of the pedestal. Leave enough cable in the right hand cavity of the
pedestal such that the controls drawer can still be pulled out. Connect the short cable socket (36) to the plug
on the clamp (37). Connect the base drawer connector (38) and the canopy drawer connector (39) to the
main drawer.

The connectors are marked 1-1 and 2-2. Join the same numbers together.

Place the 29 pole socket (40) from the base drawer an the right in the interior of the pedestal. The socket is for

· Assembly of the Canopy (figure 1)

Lift the canopy with an assistant and hold it above the lift in such a way that the heads of the pan head screws
(17) can be inserted in the lift holders (14).

For safety, screw in the four hexagon head screw (15) and washers (16) again and be sure to tighten them.

Guide the two large grey cables (43) between the two lift cross members (44), through the air intake hole and
along the pedestal rear wall to the right hand cavity on the front of the pedestal. Connect the two plugs (45 and
46) to the two control drawer sockets (47 and 48).

The connectors are coded.

Fix the cover (13) with screws. Then mount the cover plate (41), the cover (9) with the inserts (12), screws (11)
and partially with the caps (10). Put the upper cover plate (8) back in place. Guide this first into the slot in the
large cover (53), then press it further in this direction until it locks in the rear longitudinal bar.

· Assembly the Base (figure 2)

Hold the base over the pedestal so that the centering pins (49) are in the front. Place the base on the pedestal
so that the centering pins slide into the holes (50) provided for them and the base cable falls into the right hand
pedestal cavity. Connect the base cable plug (42) to the base drawer socket (40). Secure the base with nuts
(24) and washers.

Switch the rocker switch (54) to coin operation or if the equipment is to be used privately, to timer operati-
on (see chapter 9, Privately Operated Unit)

7
Always read the total operating hours from the operating hours counter (34). Mount the cover plate (19) by
screwing in the screws (20). Then mount the side trim panels (31, 33). It should be noted that the mains power
cable must be fed through the circular opening in the right hand trim panel (31). Put the Side trim panel (32) on
by sliding it from the front under the head of the screwed in screw (88) and then tighten screws (88,89). The front
cover (18) and the two rear trim panels (27 and 28) are each fitted with strips of Velcro. Press on these to mount
the side trim panels.

· Assembly of the Superfan optional accessory (standard on the Tutti Frutti 54 U·P·P)
Put the Superfan (7) approx. 2 cm from the front of the base on the foot side in the opening in the two trim panels
(32 and 33). Connect the Superfan cable (51) to the appropriate socket (52) on the pedestal.

Note:
If the construction of the cabin (the place of installation) is such that side access is limited, it is possible to mount
the Superfan from the front. To do this slightly loosen the two rear screws (88) on the side trim panel (32) and
completely remove the front screws (89). Pull the trim panel (32) out forwards. Then slide the Superfan (plug in
the cable) and then the trim panel into their positions from the front. Tighten all four screws on the cover.

3.3 Connection of the Unit’s Air Outlet (figure 1)

The unit are designed in such a way that the heated cooling air is either blown into the room and is discharged
from there via the cubicle air extraction system, or is blown towards the rear or at the right hand side directly
into the outside atmosphere via the central air-discharge connection which is present on each unit. In its
delivered state, the unit is designed in such a way that the heated air is blown into the room.

However, direct discharge of air (central air discharge) is the most effective solution, and is recommended
by uwe. Optional accesories: pipe connectors, hose clamps, air outlet hose. Direct discharge of air with the
air outlet at the rear (figure 1).

Replace the rear cover plate (55) by the connecting plate (56), and replace the slotted air discharge cover
(57) at the side by the solid cover plate (55). If the hole in the wall cannot be made directly behind the
connecting plate (56), the distance can easily be bridged with an air hose. Fixing of the hose to the connecting
plate (56) is done by means of a hose clamp. The hose adapters (connecting plate, hose clamps, etc) can be
obtained from your authorized uwe dealer.

Direct discharge of air with the air outlet at the side (figure 1)
Remove the slotted air discharge cover (57) from the side air-outlet. There, attach a connecting plate, and to
that you must definitely connect an air discharge hose by means of a hose clamp. The air discharge opening
at the rear remains closed. By means of hose connecting plates, a wall sleeve and automatic outlet flap, route
the air discharge hose into the outside atmosphere, or connect it to an air duct.

Air Discharge Collar Accessory

The direct discharge of outlet air can be performed via an air discharge collar (90) which replaces the connecting
plate (56). Using this air discharge collar part of the warmed cooling air can be fed into the cabin and thus
pleasantly warm the during the cold periods of the year without additonal costs. The amount of warm air fed
into the room is controlled by opening the air slot on the air discharge collar with the round knob. The air
discharge collar can be obtained from your dealer or from uwe. Please call for details.

Attention, important information ! You must observe this; otherwise there is a danger of overheating! To avoid
excessive resistance to the air flow, the hose should not be longer than 6 m and should be laid so that any
bends have as large a radius of curvature as possible, and without kinks. If the air is discharged to the outside
via a ventilation duct, it must be ensured that the flow resistance in the interior of the duct is as low as possible;
if necessary, an additional fan might need to be installed there. In this case, please consult a ventilation
engineer. The rate of discharge is about 1000 - 1500 m3 / hour; accordingly, fresh air must be allowed to enter
the room at the same rate. Therefore, you must provide fresh air openings in the wall of the cubicle, having
unobstructed cross section of at least 700 cm2.
Further information of effective ventilation can be found in the brochure „ Air-Conditioning Tips“ wich is
available from your dealer or from uwe.

3.4 Electrical Connection

Important:
The connection work may only be done by an electrical expert in accordance with the applicable local
regulations corresponding to the DIN VDE 0701 regulations.

On delivery the equipment is supplied with a 6 m long mains power cable. An isolating switch (plug, main switch,
fault current circuit-breaker, fuse) with which the equipment can be completely isolated from the mains power
supply is to be provided in this line. The corresponding wiring diagram is attached to every tanning unit delivered
from uwe.

8
Important:
In the case of connection via a fault current circuit-breaker ≤ 30 mA, it must be noted that, during the ignition
process, discharge current peaks occur which are so short that they can only be detected with an oscilloscope.
Therefore, if several units are operated together via one and the same fault current circuit-breaker, the peaks
can be additive and can cause the fault current circuit-breaker to trip even although there are no defects in
the units.

Therefore, never connect more than one unit via one and the same fault current circuit-breaker ≤ 30 mA.

3.5 Coin Operation or Central Control

Disconnect the unit from the mains!

The units are equipped for connection to coin operation systems or central control systems.

Coding plug for connection to token box or central control system (figure 2)
Insert the coding plug (85) with cable, which is situated on the right-hand end face of the pedestal, into the
special socket with retaining clip (86). This cable forms the connection to the token box or central control
system. The cable has four cores (phase, switched phase, neutral, PE). Therefore, the token box does not need
a separate connection to the mains.

Setting the Token box

Open the door of the token box by means of the key supplied. On the inside of the door, you will find two time
preselector switches and one coin-operation preselector switch (on the right). With a screwdriver, set the ‘tens’
minutes on the left-hand time preselector switch and the ‘units“ minutes on the right-hand time preselector
switch. In this way, you specify the duration of the sunbathing time. On the coin-operation preselector switch,
specify the number of coins needed to achieve this time unit. As soon as you insert the specified minimum
number of coins, the illuminated digits on the outside of the door indicate the set time in digital form. If you insert
twice the number of coins, you will obtain twice the sunbathing time that is set on the time preselector switch.
The time then runs down to 0. If you press the red emergency button, both the digital display and the tanning
tubes are extinguished. The only way to restart the unit is to insert coins again.

thick acrylic. Both acrylic sheets are frosted on the side facing the lamps. The high pressure facial of the 32GB
is covered by a MUG 6-filter of 3 mm thickness and a DS 02932 Filter of 3 mm thickness and a 2,5 mm acrylic
sheet frosted on the side facing the lamps. There is a reflector of high polish rolled, electrolytically finished and
eloxed aluminium between the lamps and the support of the canopy or base.

4.2 Before Setting into Operation

Before installation and setting into operation, the Safety Instructions and Operating Instructions must be carefully
read and observed.

4.3 Setting the Unit into Operation for the First Time
Before the unit is set into operation, the local safety regulations and the Safety Instructions must always be
observed. When the unit is completely installed, electrically connected and probably connected to the token
box or central control system, it can be set into operation.

Instructions to the operator:

Do not set any defective tanning units into operation.
Please ensure that the maximum room temperature of 35° C is not exceeded otherwise the lying suface of
the tanning unit might become too warm.
Fulfil the hygiene requirements.
Provide protective goggles and make sure that people wear them.
Point out that the recommended duration of sunbathing, which depends on the skin type, must not be
exceeded.
Keep the Operating Instructions available.
Display the Safety Instructions and the time chart in a clearly visible manner in the tanning room.
If the unit is to be operated for a long period of time, it must be in the closestate.
There is a sticker on the acrylic sheet on the base with important information in four languages. Please note
the information and then remove the sticker.

11
5 CLEANING - IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE OPERATOR
Ensure extremely strict hygiene on the tanning unit and in its vicinity. Dust deposits reduce the tanning effect.
Do not spray cleaning materials into the eyes. Do not spray them into naked flames. Do not drink them. They
must not be accessible to children. Do not pour or spill liquid over the unit, so that no moisture can penetrate
under the covers and into the electrical equipment. Use cleaning materials in accordance with the operating
instructions. Observe the reaction time stated for them by the manufacturer.

Body
Clean the painted external surfaces of the unit with a slightly damp cloth; same detergent can be added to the
water. Do not use abrasive materials. Stubborn dirt can be removed with a soft cloth and a biodegradable
cleaning material (e.g. vinegar-based cleanser).

Acrylic sheet
Use only the genuine uwe „Hygienefrische“ cleanser or the „Paletti Hydrovlies“ tissues. If cleaning materials
other than these are used, we cannot accept any warranty liability. When using the uwe cleanser
„Hygienefrische“ spray it onto the acrylic sheet and let it react for 30 to 60 seconds. Always dry it off with a clean
cloth. Occasionally, also clean the side of the acryclic sheet facing the tubes. To do this, take the acryclic sheet
off (chapter 6.1).

Reflector
When changing tubes, wipe the reflectors by means of a cloth moistened with alcohol.

6 MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR

Always disconnect the unit from the mains.

The company operating the unit must ensure that the unit is always operated in perfect condition only. Ensure
regular maintenance and checking of the technical equipment. In the case of repair work or activities for
setting the unit back into operation, additional measures - such as preventing access by unauthorised persons
- are absolutely essential.

Only personnel from uwe or authorised persons may work on the unit. Working procedures which jeopardise
the safety of the unit must not be used. Always obtain genuine spare parts through your dealer or uwe. Do not
operate the unit without acrylic sheets.

6.1 Changing the Acrylic Sheet

The acrylic sheets are special types of glass which are highly transparent to UV light.

Therefore, when replacing them, you must not use window glass or ordinary acrylic glass, as these types of
glass filter out the UV rays completely or partially. Always obtain the genuine acrylic sheets from your dealer
or from the manufacturer of the unit.

When a replacement is delivered, the acrylic sheet is covered with a protective covering on both sides. Before
installing in the tanning units, pull off the protective covering. There is a sticker on the acrylic sheet with important
information. Please note the information and then remove the sticker. Do not operate units without acrylic
sheets, because otherwise the cooling of the lamps is no longer assured.

If damage or injury occurs, the manufacturer cannot accept liability.

Remove the two pan head screws (60). Push the acrylic sheet (82) from the long side back between the
reflector and side strut until the opposite front long side of sheet is free. Now tip the free side of sheet up a
little. Then lift the other side out of the long channel. When re-installing place the acrylic sheet in the long
channel. Slide the sheet rearwards again between the reflector and strut until the opposite front long edge
can also be engaged. Adjust the acrylic sheet such that the elongated holes in the acrylic sheet cover the
holes in the front parts. Replace the screws (60).
Canopy acrylic sheet, installation and removal (figure 4)
Undo the six pan head screws (61). The acrylic sheet is now free. Press the acrylic sheet (83) back in the
direction of the lamps and the strut until the sheet can be removed from the long channel on the opposite
front strut. Now tip the free side of the sheet down a little. Then lift the other side also out of the long channel.
When re-installing place the acrylic plate in the long channel. Press the sheet backwards in the direction of
the lamps and strut until the opposite front long side can also be engaged. Adjust the acrylic plate such that
the elongated holes in the sheet cover the holes in the front parts. Replace the screws (61).

6.2 Maintenance of the high pressure facial (GB version of the unit)
The high pressure facial (German: „Gesichtsbräuner“, GB) must only be used with the two filter plates; if
these are damaged or missing, sunbathing must not take place. There is a danger of burning! Danger of eye
problems caused by excessive intensity! Therefore please check regularly if the filters are in working order
or require changing.
When the high pressure facial is switched on again immediately, it does not immediately light up again or
does not deliver full power (depending on the type), since it requires a cooling-down phase of about 4
minutes.

Changing the high pressure bulb (figure 4)

Remove the acrylic sheet in accordance with the instructions given above. Identify the lamp housing (70)
with the defective high pressure bulb and remove the cheese head screw (62) on the filter plate holder (63).
Swing the pane holder downwards. Hold the pane holder with both hands and slide it in the direction of the
front part so that it is unhinged. Grasp the high pressure bulb (64) at the rectangular Fassenplunger end and
press it lengthways in the holder (65) until the other end is free. Now remove the bulb downwards.

You must not pull on the glass bulb.

Hold the new high pressure bulb by the end of the bulb only. Plug the bulb (64) into the holder (65). Press the
holder back. Insert the bulb.
You must not touch the glass of the high pressure bulb with your fingers.
If you have touched it by accident, wipe off your fingerprints by means of a clean cloth moistened with
alcohol.
To obtain replacements for the tanning tubes or for the high pressure bulbs, please contact the manufacturer
of the unit or your dealer. No liability can be accepted if replacements other than genuine tubes, bulbs or
starters are installed.

13
Cleaning the reflectors
Before you insert the new bulbs, wipe the reflectors by means of a clean cloth moistened with alcohol.

Cleaning the filter plates

Unscrew the two cheese-head screws (66) on the filter plate holder (63). Take off the cover plate (67). Pull out
the blue filter plate (68) and the clear filter plate (69). Clean both filter plates with warm water, to which some
detergent can be added. Wipe the filter plates dry with a clean cloth.

When re-assembling: Blue filter plate - on user’s side!

Clear filter plate - on bulb side!

The high pressure facial must not be used without filter plates!
Re-insert the filter plate holder (63) with the cleaned filter plates. Screw the filter plate holder in place again by
means of the screw (62).

6.3 Changing the Tanning Tube

Tanning Tube (figure 5)

In accordance with the above description, take off the acrylic sheet. Rotate the tanning tube (71) in either
direction until the contact pins (72) are visible in the groove (73) of the holder. Pull the tube out. Clean the
reflectors by means of a cloth moistened with alcohol. Hold the new tanning tube horizontally in such a way that
the contact pins are vertically above one another. In this position, press the tanning tube into the holder. Rotate
the tanning tube through 90 degrees so that the notch (74) in the metal ring at the end of the tube is facing
upwards and the brighter reflector-side of the tube is facing towards the unit.

Changing the U·P·P tube (U·P·P version of the unit)

Take off the acrylic sheet in accordance with the above description. Rotate the U.P.P tube (75) in either
direction so that one contact pin (76) goes into the groove (77) (which is open at the bottom) of the holder. Pull
the U·P·P tube off downwards. Hold the new U·P·P tube horizontally in such a way that the contact pins (76) are
vertically above one another. In this position, move the lamp into the groove which is open at the bottom. Tilt the
lamp so that one contact pin fits firmly in the wing of the groove (78). Rotate the lamp so that the second
contact pin snaps into the other wing of the groove.

6.4 Changing the Filters

The air for cooling the unit enters it through micro filter pads. Fluff, hairs, dust particles etc. are filtered out there,
so that the internal parts of the unit, such as lamps etc., only have to be cleaned at long intervals of time. After
prolonged use, these filtered-out particles clog the filters and thus impair the cooling of the unit. Therefore, you
must occasionally renew the filter pads to prevent overheating of the unit. The intervals of time at which this is
necessary depend on the operating time and on the amount of dirt in the vicinity.

You must check the filters after every 200 hours of operation; the filters must not be more than half clogged.
Obtain genuine filter pads through your dealer or the manufacturer of the unit only.

Changing the filter in the base (figure 2)

Pull the front cover (18) off forwards. There is a large filter pad (79) attached to the cover plate (19) with strips
of Velcro. Pull off the filter pad and put on the new pad. Press the front cover (18) back into place.

Changing the filter in the canopy (figure 1)

Remove the upper cover (8) by pressing the cover from rear of the unit in the direction of the middle. This can
then be removed from the large cover (53) using the tabs. The filter pad is now accessible. Remove the wire
clips (81), change the filter pad and put the wire clips back on. Refit the cover (8).

14
7 NOTES
Burning-in the tubes
Initially, the tubes have slight colour-differences. This phenomenon disappears after a short time. The tubes shine
less brightly at the ends. This is due to physical reasons and is not a defect of the tubes.

Replacing the tanning tube

The radiation intensity of the tubes gradually decreases, although this effect cannot be detected visually. You
must compensate for this by means of a longer sunbathing time. uwe recommends that the fluorescent tubes,
the U·P·P tubes and the high pressure bulbs be changed after approx. 500 operating hours.

8 TIPS FOR CORRECTING MINOR DEFECTS

Before you begin maintenance and repair work, you must disconnect the unit from the mains. Repairs should
only be performed by uwe or by authorised persons. Safety devices must not be removed or disabled. After
every repair work the unit should be checked in accordance with the applicable local regulations
corresponding to the DIN VDE 0701 regulations.

Dark spots at the ends of the tubes

If dark spots are present at the ends of the tubes in the switched-off state, this will not affect the performance
of the unit. However, as a precaution, replace the starter.
One or more tubes not alight (change of starter)
If dark spots are present at the ends of the tubes in the switched-off state, this will not affect the performance
of the unit. However, as a precaution, replace the starter.

Starter Tanning tube base On lamp holders at the head end; take off the acrylic sheet (82)
Tanning tube canopy On lamp holders at the foot end; take off the acrylic sheet (83)
U·P·P tube Take off the covers (8 and 53)
Take out the starter on the tube that is not alight by turning it to the left, and then put it back in again by turning
it to the right. If the tube still does not light up, insert the starter from an intact tube. If this is not successful, the tube
must be checked. Insert the tube that is not alight into a holder whose tube is alight. If the tube does not light up,
it is defective and will have to be replaced. If it does light up, there is an electrical defect in the unit.

Check should be performed by uwe or by an authorised agent appointed by uwe.

The canopy or the base gets too hot.

Possible causes:
Check whether the air intake filters (filter pads) are clogged. In the case of units with direct discharge of air,
ensure that the heated cooling air is passed into the outside atmosphere without excessive resistance. There
must not be excessive hindrance of the air flow, either in the hose or in the ventilation duct, because this will
cause overheating of the unit.
Check should be performed by uwe or by an authorised dealer appointed by uwe.

9 PRIVATELY OPERATED UNIT

Disconnect the unit from the mains!
If it is subsequently desired to operate the equipment privately, it is necessary to change the setting of two
rocker switches. Remove the front trim panel (18, figure 2) by pulling it forward. Disassemble the cover plate
(19). On the controls drawer (23) there is a mounting plate with the operating hours counter (34) and a rocker
switch (54). Switch this rocker switch to private operation (clock symbol). The second switch is on a circuit board
in the canopy. To access this switch disassemble the cover (8, figure 1) and the cover (53). Now slide the switch
(87) on the circuit card (92) also to private operation (clock symbol). The third setting is to be made at the wire
clip (91). In the standard coin box version this wire clip is closed. For private operation please open it. Refit the
covers.

Unplug the coding cable (85).

By several pressings of the START button (4) on the operating panel, you can set the sunbathing time. The
sunbathing time entered can be seen on the display (2). If you would like to switch the unit off before the set
time, or if you have made a mistake while setting the time, press the STOP button (3).

10 DISPOSING OF LAMPS
Fluorescent lamps, high pressure bulbs and U·P·P tubes are hazardous waste. They must not be disposed of like
ordinary household waste. The local authorities can tell you where the lamps can be disposed of.
