To some degree I think the Australian celebraon of

In reading the history of the Parish, and looking
through some documentaon since I arrived in our
beauful community, I was shocked to discover
recently that our Parishs formal name is The
CatholicParishofForster.

Thereisnodoubtaverygoodhistoricalreasonforthis
namebeinggiventotheParish,butitisalsoveryclear
that this name does not reect the current reality of
our Parish being centred on the two townships of
ForsterandTuncurry.

I would propose that we recfy this situaon, and

peon our Bishop to formally and canonically
renametheParishtoThe Catholic Parish of Forster
Tuncurry to beer reect who we are (since we
already use that name anyway) and give a stronger
identytoourcommunityoffaith.

Some might say that such a change is merely a

cosmec one, and to some degree they would be
correct: we already refer to ourselves as the Forster
TuncurryParish,sowhydoweneedtochangeit.And
while this is true, it will cost us nothing (apart from a
stamp!)sincethesignage,leerheadsandotheritems
on which our name is used already reects the new
name.

Unless anyone vehemently objectsin which case I

wouldappreciateyoulengmeknowIwouldliketo
begin this process early in the new year so we can
addressthishistoricaloddityinourcommunallife.

As has become tradional in the Parish, some
community members will gather on Christmas Day in
the Hall to enjoy lunch and companionship together.
This funcon has been greatly appreciated over the
years by people who would otherwise spend the Day
alone. This marks the 27th year we have gathered in
this way. The Hall will be open from 11.30am and
lunchwillbeservedat1pm.Allaremostwelcome.
