The weather-gods were on our side last Friday providing an excellent day for our annual athletics. The warm nor wester dried the field out, which gave us great conditions for athletic competition. Students from Lawrence Area School and Waitahuna competed in a full range of events; high jump, sprints, distance, shot put, discus and long jump. This year they also enjoyed two novelty events; obstacle race and javelin/nerf throw. Adults and students from Yr9/10 acted as event organisers/officials encouraging competitors to do their very best. At every event competition for points and places was determined. Weeks of training had students well prepared, up skilled and fit. Parent support on the day was excellent. Mum, Dads and even grandparents helped out at events; timing, measuring, recording. Others cheered students on, encouraging them to perform well. All students are deserving of congratulations for their effort and their good sportsmanship. A big thanks is extended to Kate Anderson for her hours of organisation which ensured the event ran smoothly. The input of teachers and parent helpers is most appreciated. To those students who gained placing in events, well done. Some of these students will have qualified to compete in the Otago Athletics Championships to be held in Dunedin on 21st November. We will notify individual students and parents in this regard. Above all the day was great fun, well organised, well supported and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Kind Regards
John Auld
NCEA EXAMS...... These start on Saturday 10th November and continue for around two and half weeks. We wish our Year 11-13 students all the best for these exams. Senior students are on study leave from Monday 11th onward. They are however most welcome, and encouraged to come and study at school.

Cricket: Thanks to two dry Fridays we have played two rounds of cricket:
Week 1 Our hardball team (Yr 7/10) had a narrow win against Rosebank. Lawrence Gold had an exciting tie with Balclutha. Lawrence Blue were beaten by a very good Roxburgh Team. Week 2 Our Year 9/10 Girls won a Super Six tournament in Alexandra beating Roxburgh Area School and Mt Aspiring in morning competition before beating Roxburgh in the final. Based on their excellent play two students; Brooke Cameron and Eloise McLaughlin have been approached to represent Otago Country. Our hardball team travelled to Owaka and beat hosts Catlins. Lawrence Gold lifted their game considerably and gained a fine victory over Milton. Lawrence Blue also stepped up for a good win over Balclutha with Jaxon and Elliot batting brilliant to set up the win.
