How to become a Q Grader

The following are mandatory steps to become a certified Q Grader. As many of you know, the Q Grader evaluation is for those who wish to be certified cuppers. It is a combination of training and testing but we strongly suggest having coffee knowledge and cupping experience before trying to be certified as a Q Grader; it is not a course for beginners. If you are interested in beginner cupping lessons, see the SCAA website for all the Introductory courses; they are a great resource. There is a lot of information on the CQI website. Among that information are the upcoming Q Courses, which is where you would look for events happening in or near your country. You can also find the list of CQI ICP (In Country Partners) which would be the institutions you can address to know when there will be Q Trainings in your country or request them. The following are the steps or requirements to become a Q Grader. Register on CQI website as a student, specifically in the course created by your instructor. Pass all required exams see other document If you do not pass all required exams, you have 18 months to re-take the exams you need to. During that time, you can participate in a maximum of 3 courses. If you do not pass all exams, you will need to retake a complete Q Course. Once you have passed all the required exams and your instructor has registered the information in the CQI website, you will automatically be able to either see your scores or which exams you need to retake; or print or save your Certified Q Grader diploma automatically. The Q Grader certificate is valid for 3 years. After that time, Q Graders who wish to re-certify need to participate in a Q Grader calibration to maintain their status.
