Praise the Lord!

Dear Parents, hope you all are well. Taking courage from last years response to Shoe , this year also, Sunday
school has decided to team up with “Operation Christmas Child Charity project"

Christmas Child”- a project organized by “Samaritans Purse”.

What is Samaritans Purse and How does this project work?

Samaritan's Purse is an evangelical Christian humanitarian aid wing of a Global gospel org that provides aid to
people n physical need as a key part of its Christian missionary work.
This organization is run by “Evangelist Billy Graham Foundation”.
The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to provide God’s love in a
tangible way to children in need around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to
share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

As part of the project, every participating child is given a shoe box carton of A4 size length. It is a hands-
on way for you to bless children in need across the world by filling shoeboxes with toys, hygiene items,
school supplies, and fun gifts. They collect the boxes and distribute them in the name of Jesus Christ to
children living in vulnerable situations.

Why are we doing this?

We at Sunday school wanted to teach our children at a very young age, how to demonstrate the love
of Christ through small acts of sharing and caring. We selected this project as we wanted to be teamed
up with a credible organization with great history, vision, values, and transparency in operations.

What should we do?

If interested, collect your box and use the pamphlet with self-explanatory instructions to fill the boxes.

For ease, I am pasting the steps here:

If you have any queries or concerns, please contact the respective Sunday school teachers .
We request all the parents for prayerful co-operation and support in filling out the boxes and
returning the same to us, on time suggested.
Each family will be given one box. But if you are interested to do more than one, you are always
welcome.
Already Have a Shoe box! Start packing … if you want to pack more boxes than already given, kindly
contact your Sunday school teacher or you may use any A4 size box made of paper. If you want to
wrap it, cover the box and lid separately.

Girl or Boy?

Decide whether you will pack a box for a girl or a boy, and the age category: 2–4, 5–9, or 10–14.

Fill with Gi. s

Select a medium to large “wow” item such as a soccer ball with pump or stuffed animal, then fill with
other fun toys, hygiene items and school supplies.

Fill shoeboxes with quality, new items that will last. Think about the kids in your life – pack items you
feel they would enjoy. Remember that each box represents the free gi of God’s love so be sure to
send gi s that will bring a smile.

Need sugges ons or ideas for each group: check out this link or find details at the end of the document

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. What countries are shoeboxes sent to?

• Globally, over 100 countries receive OCC shoeboxes.

2. Which country will my shoebox go to?

• We don’t know where each shoebox will be shipped until they are processed and a sea container is
booked. This is due to timing, targets and export/import schedules to our receiving countries.

• The best way for people to find out where their shoebox/es are shipped is to make their $12.50
donation per shoebox via “Follow Your Box” and to attach the barcoded labels to their shoebox/es.

3. What is the cut-off date?

• National Collection is 23rd October to 5th November 2023. As we get closer to National
Collection all the drop-off locations will be listed on the website.

4. Do I have to use a pre-printed OCC shoebox?

• Not at all – in fact we prefer people to use their own empty shoeboxes. The pre-printed shoeboxes
are available to assist people and groups with their participation if required.

• Please follow the size guidelines on the brochure as closely as possible when using your own
shoebox or shoebox-sized plastic container.

5. How can the $12.50 donation be made?

• The best method is online, as it is the most secure form of giving to OCC and requires the least
handling and administration. You can give a general donation online or donate via the Follow Your
Box method.

• If you aren’t comfortable giving online, please use the donation form on the OCC brochure and
include it with your credit card or cash donation and place in an envelope inside your shoebox/es.

• Please try to place the envelope on top of the shoebox contents so it is easily located by our
processing team.

• If you’re giving multiple shoeboxes, you can make a combined donation for all your shoeboxes and
place it in one of the shoeboxes.
6. Do shoeboxes go to the same children every year?

• OCC has a one shoebox for one child policy. We do this to ensure as many
children as possible can be reached and impacted by the program.

7. What are the reasons for prohibited/inappropriate items?

• There are a variety of reasons behind the guidelines. Some are due to customs regulations,
but most are to do with the safety and wellbeing of the child. Please encourage your group
to follow the guidelines as closely as possible without too much speculation regarding what
the reason may be for each guideline.

8. Can I donate items, or shoeboxes without the donation?

• We encourage people to donate shoeboxes with the accompanying donation as our first
preference – gift-filled shoeboxes and donated funds are the two things that fuel our
ministry.

9. Why can’t I put a Bible or Christian Literature in my shoebox?

• There are two practical reasons for this. Firstly, many of the shoeboxes go to countries where
the children cannot read or speak English. Secondly, OCC works with the local church to
invite children to a follow-up discipleship course called The Greatest Journey. They receive
teaching, discipleship material and get a Bible in their own language.
