PART III. READING
I. Read the passage carefully, then choose the correct option (marked A, B, C or
D) to answer the questions.
It isn't amazing how much time we spend talking about food? "Have you ever
eaten...?" "What did you have for lunch?" and so one. And yet when you travel from
one country to another, you find that people have quite different feelings about
food. People often feel that what they eat is normal, and that what other people eat
is strange or silly.
In most parts of Asia, for example, no meal is complete without rice. In
England, people eat potatoes everyday. In the Middle East, bread is the main part
of every meal. Eating like so many things we do, becomes a habit which is difficult
to change. Americans like to drink a lot of orange juice and coffee. The English drink
tea four or five times a day. Australian drink large amount of beer and the French
drink wine everyday.
The sort of meat people like to eat also differs from one country to another.
Horsemeat is thought to be delicious in France. In Hong Kong, some people enjoy
eating snakes. New Zealanders eat sheep, but they never eat goat meat. The
Japanese don't like to eat sheep meat because of its smell, but they enjoy raw fish.
So it seems that although eating is a topic that we can talk about for hours,
there is very little common sense in what they say about it. People everywhere enjoy
eating what they have always been eating, and there is very little we can do to
change our eating habits.

II. Write a passage (150 – 200 words) on the following topic.
‘Most teachers think that homework is necessary’
Do you agree with this? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant
examples from your own knowledge and experience.

Nowadays, with the development of education, the programme at school is getting harder.
So there is an argument that most teachers think that homework is necessary. In my point, I
totally agree with this view. Firstly, the time to teach students at school is limited. So maybe
some pupils don’t catch on the lesson. Therefore, homework is a best idea to improve their
studying. Secondly, homework will help youngsters to broaden their knowledge because it
has some essential things after the main lesson. After learning in the class, student get a
litany of knowledge so they cannot remember all. When doing homework, they can review
their lesson again to do homework as well as possible. Moreover, doing homework make
them practice the skill for the other tests at school. On the other hands, some people think
homework can make student feel stressful. But it also depends on how teenager solve the
exercise and control the time to do reasonably. In conclusion, students should do the
homework hard to get the best result of learning.
