A Summary of the Literary Work: Zita

The story follows the narrative of a young girl named Zita; a daughter of a wealthy
man named Don Eleodoro who was tutored by a young teacher named Francisco B.
Reteche. Mr. Reteche, as he’s called, is a mysterious man with an elusive past. He
constantly receives letters in a blue envelope and within moments of getting along
with each other, Zita secretly falls in love with Mr. Reteche and danced at the night
before he was set to left the island. With a letter handed to her, Zita tore the paper
that revealed a great understanding, as what had Mr. Reteche told her.

The Characters

Zita- is the daughter of Don Eleodoro, a province girl who fell in love with Mr.
Reteche.

Mr. Francisco B. Reteche- is the teacher from the city, the teacher that was asked by
Don Eleodoro to teach her daughter Zita on how to be a lady. He is also identified as
someone that’s mysterious and hideous.

Don Eleodoro- is a tycoon of their place Anayat, the father of Zita who requested Mr.
Reteche to be the teacher of his daughter.

Turong- a fisherman from Anayat and the messenger of Mr. Reteche.

Father Cesareo — was the priest in the story
