EXAMINATION ANNOUNCEMENT FIRE FIGHTER I

FILING PERIOD HOW TO APPLY

The filing period for the 2012 fire season is November 1, 2011 through January 31, 2012. Applications will be accepted by mail OR in person for the units in the Northern Region. Applications will be accepted on a file-in-person basis ONLY for the units in the Southern Region. PLEASE REVIEW THE UNIT LISTING TO DETERMINE THE APPROPRIATE FILING METHOD. APPLICATIONS MUST BE FILED AT EACH UNIT IN WHICH YOU WISH TO BE CONSIDERED FOR APPOINTMENT. APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AFTER JANUARY 31, 2012 MAY NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR THE 2012 FIRE SEASON. If you have a disability and need special testing arrangements, mark yes for question #1 on the Fire Fighter I application. All candidates will be required to complete a Fire Fighter I Application for Employment, form CAL FIRE 215. This application is designed to elicit a range of specific information regarding each candidate's knowledge, abilities, and potential to effectively perform the duties relative to the classification. Oral interviews may be scheduled as conditions warrant. A Fire Fighter I participates in wildland, rural, and structural fire suppression. As a member of a fire crew, a Fire Fighter I fights fires, repairs equipment, assists with general station housekeeping, and responds to emergency situations. $2494 - $3032, plus planned overtime and benefits. Minimum Age: 18 years at the time of appointment. A. Knowledge of: 1. Good physical work methods. B. Ability to: 1. Follow oral and written directions. 2. Do heavy physical work. 3. Exercise good judgment in hazardous fire suppression activity. 4. Accept and benefit from training in fire suppression work and techniques. 5. Work safely with others. 6. Live in a fire station compatibly with others. 7. Respond quickly to oral commands or signals in emergency situations. Willingness to live and work in remote areas and on weekends and holidays and remain on duty 24 hours a day, as required: visual acuity, color vision, and hearing sufficient to perform the assigned duties; physical strength, dexterity, and agility necessary to perform the duties of the position. Possession of a valid California driver license of the appropriate class issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
